Hello there, my name is Winifred. Those who know me call me Winnie! I am 5 years old, weigh 7 pounds, and am a beautiful Dachshund/Chihuahua mix with a long coat.
I am looking for a special family, one who can be patient, loving, and committed to helping me work through my shyness and fears. I am quite a shy girl and still very nervous about the world around me - so much of it is new to me. A calm environment will be very important to help me feel safe and adjust to a home life. I enjoy lying near my foster mom on the couch and I love lying in my very own dog bed. My favorite thing to do is nap!
I am learning about toys and bully sticks and perhaps eventually will play with them. For now, I carry them around and sometimes hide them. I also am learning about the leash and that it does not have to be a scary thing. I like to walk behind so I can see what’s happening in front of me. I am being very, very brave!
I enjoy the company of the small dog who lives with me. I sometimes get a little protective of food and toys, but my foster mom is working on that with me. There is just so much to learn in a home and I am learning new things every day! I will go to the bathroom outside and am learning how to go on a potty pad well. I know that with some time, I will master potty training!
Could you be the special family who has space for me in their heart and home?

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance.
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
