Here's what the humans have to say about me:
IDGSR welcomes Bristol into the safety of the rescue!!!
Bristol is a beautiful female German Shepherd who is approximately 3-4 yrs. old. Her story is longer than most. Back in February, IDGSR received a call from a shelter about a German Shepherd who had a severe foot injury and was about to be euthanized. We responded right away and Bristol, as we named her, was released to us and we immediately took her to our veterinarian for treatment. Unfortunately by that time, there was too much damage to her foot and it couldn't be saved. A decision was made to amputate the foot and ankle leaving the leg to be fitted with a prosthetic. With the help of the Animal Rescue Site at Greater Good, we began fundraising for the surgery and prosthetic she needed. Bristol had 2 surgeries and then had the prosthetic fitted correctly.
Fast-forward 6 months to August and Bristol has fully recovered. Her dedicated foster mom worked with Bristol every day for months to get her used to the feel of having the prosthetic on, taking a few steps with it, then learning to walk more and finally running. As you can see in the video, it hasn't slowed her down at all. Through all of this Bristol was a real trooper and accustomed herself to a new way of moving. Bristol loves people, is good with kids, and is great with other dogs. This is a dog who is lucky to be alive and happy to be alive. Happy, zoomy, one-in-a-million Bristol.
