Facts about Colin Collie

  • Breed: Sheltie, Shetland Sheepdog/Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Colin Collie was pulled from a high kill shelter in Houston alongside a littermate. It is hard to imagine what exactly their life was up to that point, but they were emotional wrecks at the shelter, scared to even stand and trembling with fear, but came into their own quickly once out.

Colin is vivacious, flirtatious and terrifically bright, an older puppy of less than one year. He is wonderful company, will sit by your feet, follow you around, give marvelous greetings at the door, jump to your knees for attention. He however is clearly a dog who was not touched much growing up and is not particularly into it.

That makes him a fairly quirky rescue pup, lol! Colin is not quick to bond, but once he makes his mind up is very devoted. He is a fun little character regardless. He crates very well, gets along with everyone (fine around kids) and has no sharpness to him.

Colin loves, and we do mean LOVES, other dogs, and would be an ideal addition for those seeking a second dog as a playmate. He is currently being fostered by a doggie daycare and is one of their very best players :)

Colin likes to talk and is a bit of a barker, although in his crate he is quiet and he does not seem to be an alarm barker. He will be a noisier dog, however, and between that and being a busy little dog who is usually on the go, we do not recommend him for apartment or condo dwellers.

If you would like to take on about as charming a project dog as there can be, Colin may be the boy for you. He is so focused on your presence and so very bright, he should be an extra fun training companion. Clicker users are particularly encouraged to apply. He is extremely food motivated.

Applications are available on the website, or by contacting Lucy at His adoption fee is $450.

About Southpaws Express

About Our Rescue Group...

Southpaws Express is the brainchild of highly rescue-experienced women, one coming from a southern shelter background and the other from New England breed rescue. We try our best to combine our experience to do right by dogs in high kill shelter regions while paying tribute to the New England protocols that put dog rescue so successfully on the map.

We are, and prefer to remain, small, pulling only a few dogs at a time and offering individualized attention to our prospective adopters. A commonality we share is that we are both "big picture" people, a core belief being that every dog we take in, and every adoption we complete, should move rescue forward. We believe in great ambassador dogs for rescue, happy adopters, and an adoption process that is both experienced and caring. We are not rigid or inflexible, and it is always our goal to build advocacy for rescue. We want you to have a good time!

Be it through adoption, volunteerism or education, we welcome you to our family!

Our Adoption Process...

Southpaws Express is a progressive rescue that prides itself on an intimate, individualized application process. We strive to make it as friendly and personalized as we can, and assist with good matching advice and direction, catered to the individual....the individual dog and adopter. Our application is available on the site, and introductory emails always are welcomed to Lucy at Our standard adoption fee is $400 ($450 for puppies), which helps defray the weighty cost of transporting our foster dogs up north from their high kill southern environments and providing an excellence of vet care, but some dogs will be discounted, due to age or exceptional needs.
