Luca is a wonderful girl! She's spunky and vibrant but also settles well during quiet times in the house. She's crate trained, potty trained, good with other dogs of all sizes, eager to please, and walks relatively well on leash. Her favorite game is fetch with a tennis ball, and offering sits to her humans in exchange for tasty cookies. She truely is a diamond in the rough!

Currently, in her Bay Area foster home, Luca is being trained to be a
Diabetes Alert Dog; which means she'll be able to warn a Type 1 Diabetic to rapidly changing blood glucose numbers before they reach dangerous levels. She was chosen as one of two dogs from Animal Compassion Team to take part in a pilot program where rescue dogs are fostered and trained as Diabetes Alert Dogs  Once her training is complete, Luca will be looking for her very own insulin-dependant diabetic to keep tabs on. If you would like to learn more about Luca's training and/or what Diabetes Alert Dogs can do, please email her Foster Parents, Erica and Alex, at or visit to learn about adoption qualifications. She can't wait to meet you!

About Animal Compassion Team of California

About Our Rescue Group...

The vision for ACT has been brewing in the minds of the Animal Compassion Team founders for many years. The paths we have walked have prepared us and tested our determination through hard work, buckets of tears, mountains of fecal matter (a favorite topic of discussion amongst animal rescuers), and more then our fair share of discouragement and heartbreak. Having said that, why would we choose to dive in deeper? For the love of the animals we serve. It is just that simple. Dogs, cats, and other wonderful animals are dying in huge numbers daily. We hope to help change that. In August of 2009 we became a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation with the state of California and the Federal Government. It was, and continues to be, a huge leap of faith for all of us who already feel overwhelmed by the work we are doing but we believe this is the time....this is what we have all been preparing for. One life saved makes all the effort and emotional investment worthwhile. This is going to be an exciting journey and we hope to post MANY happy endings. New animals arrive daily......stay tuned .....we have only just begun!

Our Mission Statement:

To provide a safe haven for domestic animals, regardless of breed or species, through rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and sanctuary. To advocate for the humane treatment of animals and promote the human-animal bond. To educate the public about the importance of kindness, compassion, and responsible pet ownership which will emphasize spaying and neutering. To cooperate and work with other animal rescues and shelters towards the goal of becoming a no-kill nation.
