Popcorn had an interesting journey getting to the SPCA. The Feline Manager was in search of her favorite popcorn at Hot August Nights, when this this little girl accosted her with love in the nearby parking garage. Looking for an owner and not seeing anyone, this little girl was brought to WCRAS in hopes that her owner would claim her. Unfortunately they didn't, and the cat found her way to the SPCA! Little did the Feline Manager know that the search for popcorn would culminate in a happy find! The cat was therein named Popcorn after the search for Popcorn. This girl can be at times a bit on the feisty side, which would prevent her from finding a home with dogs or very young kids. Looking for someone to watch movies with? Come and meet this fabulous little cat today! Firefly is currently available at the Petsmart location on Mae Anne and McCarran! 775-787-7833

About SPCA of Northern Nevada

About Our Shelter...

The mission of the SPCANN is to be an innovative regional leader in responsible treatment of homeless cats and dogs, primarily through their rescue and placement in forever loving homes, and by promoting spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation. We accomplish our mission with dedication to our core values and a lifetime commitment to our animals.

We are Reno's first no-kill animal shelter, founded in 1998. Each year our shelter develops more progressive programs such as our Rural Rescue Program where we aggressively rescue animals from rural animal control agencies and support their joint efforts to move animals out of their facilities and into ours to avoid euthanasia. We also have expanded our reach into schools with our Humane Initiative Program where we teach and show compassion to animals. We have more programs and many projects on the horizon - visit our website to see more!!!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have events througout the year to highlight our adoptable animals. One favorite event each year is our local public swimming pool closes to the public in the fall and the very last day the pool is open only to dogs in the community. Shelter dogs play, splash and mingle with public dogs in two pools and cool off for the final hot days of the summer.

We post our events on our website and Facebook and through other various media outlets.

Our Adoption Process...

The SPCA of Northern Nevada has an adoption process that involves a fee, adoption application, Meet and Greets with prospective humans and other companion dogs in the same household and children. We do have specific requirements for an adoption. We strive to really ensure a great match!
