Lyra is an adorable 2-year-old pocket pitbull at just under 40 pounds. Lyra was a stray who had puppies that she lost, and came to us very scared. She is very fearful of other dogs, not surprising giving all the bites she had on her ears when she arrived.

Lyra has spent the last several months in foster care and she is just an absolute heart-warming girl. Not only is she small and adorable, she is sweet, friendly, and affectionate to ALL people, men and women, old and young, and great with kids. She is not, however, good with dogs. The rescue is has been working to mediate this via training. A savvy dog handler can walk her around other dogs and manage her reactions, but she has yet to shake the mentality that she is going to be attacked by other dogs, resulting in barks and lunges to keep them at bay. It is all fear-based, as this little spitfire will do it to dogs 3x her size! Lyra will need an owner who is comfortable handling this little fearful girl outside the home and working to build her confidence, or just enjoying her in the home. Aside, Lyra is healthy, happy, house-trained, spayed, and up to date on all vaccinations. She will make a wonderful addition to a savvy family.

Adoption Info: Lyra's adoption fee of $450 covers the spay/neuter, all vaccinations, microchipping, health certificate, boarding, and transportation costs from California to Seattle.

About Ginger's Pet Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is one of the largest non-profit pet rescue organizations in Washington state, and we specialize in saving Death Row Dogs. Our mission is to give homeless animals with no hope the life they deserve through rescue, foster and adoption. We rely on a large network of fosters in the Seattle area, who provide our dogs with love and care during transition from rescue to adoption. We do not have a physical shelter location; to meet the dogs in our rescue, contact us to connect with a foster or join us at an adoption event!

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We rely solely on the support from adoption fees and donations to help us provide for the ~100+ dogs in our rescue at any given time.

How We Rescue

We take in dogs from local families in need, in state and out of state shelters, and we also work with overseas rescue groups on occasion. We do not discriminate – we rescue dogs small and big, old and young, healthy and sick, purebred and Heinz 57! Our belief is that every dog deserves a forever home.
Our History

Ginger’s Pet Rescue was founded in 2006 by Ginger Luke after saving one Dachshund’s life turned into a life-long endeavor. The organization is dedicated to providing great care for our dogs and adoption efforts!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Ginger's Pet Rescue has all our dogs in foster care.

You must complete an application and then you can meet the dogs by appointment with the foster dog parents.

You may also come to one of our adoption events to meet our adoptable dogs and fill out an application in person:

Our Adoption Process...

The first step to adopting a pet from Ginger’s Pet Rescue is completing our Adoption Application and email to or submit via our Contact Form on our website. This application will allow us to know more about your family, what kind of pet will fit best and your home, and whether you will be a good match for one of our dogs. Please include the dog(s) you are interested in on the application. We review applications upon receipt and will reply as soon as possible, usually within 1-2 days.

Adoption fees range from $300-$700 depending on a number of the factors, and adoption fees are what allow us to continue our rescue, as our primary source of funding.

If for any reason the dog does not work out, we are willing to take the dog back and refund your adoption fee less a $100 rehoming fee.
