Leia (arriving 8/19)'s Story...
Leia (arriving 8/19) is 15 weeks old.
Gets along with other dogs/cats?: Foster home has three dogs, however, Leia was kept with her brother, Yoda, in a separate room and never encountered the dogs.  Leia would probably learn to be ok with cat friendly dogs over time, after trust has been established.

Children?:  Foster home does not have young children under 14.  Given Leia's sensitive personality, young children would probably scare her via quick actions, running and loud noises.

Special needs:  A permanent, loving indoor home where her new human family will allow her  to snuggle with them and play with her.

Bio: Tiny and scared Leia and her brother, Yoda, were discovered on the streets of Conway, Arkansas, trying their best to survive on their own without their mother, but not doing very well.  They were brought into rescue, shown affection, given good food, fresh water and good care.  They learned to cuddle, purr readily and play.
Leia is still a bit shy and wary, but she's also very cuddly once trust has been established - and that she understands that you won't "eat her"!   She purrs readily, especially with a scratch in front of her tail and an ear scratch.
It is of utmost importance to give her time to adjust to new environment, new sights, smells, sounds and feel that she's safe - best would be in a small room instead of an overwhelming whole house.

She has been tested for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) & FeLV (feline leukemia virus) & found to be negative, and is already spayed.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Leia (arriving 8/19), a East Hartford Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in East Hartford, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in East Hartford.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in East Hartford already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a East Hartford breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in East Hartford paves the way for another one to be saved.
