Hello everyone my name is Gee! I know first question you have is how did I get the name Gee?? Well I was brought to a county shelter in Southern Illinois with another male beagle friend of mine and they decided we would be named Bee and Gee after the Bee Gees. I can only guess they named us this because we looked like rock stars! We were in the shelter a long time and arrangements were made for us to be rescued by Midwest BREW. When we heard this good news we couldn’t stop singing “Stayin Alive”!! Thank you Midwest BREW!
I currently am getting out of that old, rough rock’n roll lifestyle (which really was puppy mill life for me) and I am living in a foster home with my foster mom and two beagle foster sisters. My foster mom has taken to calling me “Gene”. The accommodations here are five star rated! I love sleeping in a cozy dog bed or the human bed. I am pretty much an independent boy and don’t bother the resident girls too much. I like to retreat to my bed and sleep. At first my foster mom was crating me but it was evident that I was starting to dislike my crate. Foster mom thinks I have spent too many years in a crate or pen and once I have had a taste of the dog bed I don’t really want to go back to the crate, it’s boring! Foster mom is working on getting me to see the positives of the crate. I often get my meals in the crate (with the door open) or I get a frozen Kong in there. We are working on things.
I am just a little guy I only weigh about 20 pounds so I am allowed to have peanut butter in my Kong unlike the resident beagles who get frozen yogurt. Haha! Luckily I don’t have to watch my figure and I am not on a diet. A few extra pounds will do me good!
Because I have lived confined in my previous life, my foster mom thinks a secure fenced yard is best for me because I could be an escape artist. I do know how to climb the baby gate that foster mom puts up to keep us in a certain room in the house when she is away. I can’t help it, I had a taste of freedom and now I love it! I am a true rescue dog and I have to ask for patience. I do love my foster mom and I wish she could be around all day because this is the first taste I have had of love and care. I like to be petted, loved on and to be close to my human. It is pretty nice of me to still love you guys after some humans weren’t too kind to me.
I walk well on a leash and I’m tiny so I walk with a secure harness. I don’t bark much and I am not very food motivated like most beagles. It is taking me a bit to get the whole housetraining thing but I am doing much better. I will probably still need some guidance upon my move to my forever home. I am no stranger to wearing my belly band. I find it quite stylish but, yes, I do know I can’t wear it forever!
I hope you will give me a chance to steal your heart. I may need a little extra time and patience but the love of a rescue dog like me is unconditional. I would love to be your best friend! As the Bee Gees once sang “How deep is your love”…..Arrroooo!!
