We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Wouldn’t you like a calm, affectionate adult dog? Harvey is a neutered 3-4 year old Yellow Lab/Anatolian Shepherd/Boerboel mix. He weighs 56 pounds, making him a medium to large sized dog. He loves to be pet, but is not too needy. He is not destructive and likes to please. He is even willing to play dress up with young children! Harvey was brought to a shelter down south because his owner had too many pets and, apparently could not take proper care of Harvey; he tested heart worm positive. However Harvey shows no signs of illness and recently finished his treatment. He will soon be considered cured, with no long term effects to his health. Harvey is housebroken although like many male dogs, did mark in areas of his foster home when he first arrived.
Poor Harvey has a small tear in his left ear as a result of being attacked at the first shelter. This small blemish doesn’t bother Harvey! He is still handsome. While Harvey likes other dogs, due to this experience, he sometimes becomes nervous around unfamiliar dogs. However he gets along well with the other dog in his foster home. He would enjoy riding around town with a forever family in a pick up truck or a big SUV. (He wouldn't mind a family with just a car if necessary - lol) Harvey is an easy going guy that will make a nice family dog or loving single companion. He is definitely a dog who deserves to find a loving, caring forever home! Are you that home?
Harvey is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered. His new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Harvey' s adoption fee is $250. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Harvey fill out an online application today! http://arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.
If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early,
as we cannot hold animals.
All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs.
We appreciate your cooperation.
