My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our grand Cash will be a pot 'o gold for the right folks. He came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility, where his owner left him, claiming that work interfered with Cash's care. As the story goes, puppy Cash was a gift to his owner, and now, three years old, Cash is a homeless Rescue statistic. We vehemently maintain that puppies make lousy and presumptuous gifts, and think that perhaps Cash's owner would have preferred his gift in cash dollars rather than dog kisses.

We loved Cash from the moment we met him, despite shelter comments that he is suspicious of some strangers. He warmed to us quickly, likely rejoicing in freedom from shelter life. Cash is a stunning looking character, with a happy-go-lucky demeanor. He has charmed all of his handlers. We believe Cash to be a mix of German Shepherd and Siberian Husky. He has a tri-color coat blending the black, smoky brown and white hues found in both breeds. His soft, thick coat is lustrous to touch and requires regular brushing. He will likely "blow his coat" in spring and fall. We see a hint of the Husky mask and plume tail, as well as the proud German Shepherd stance and bouyant personality.

Cash would be the ideal companion to an active single or couple who have large dog experience. At 60 pounss, he is a strong, energetic fellow, who requires at least a couple of brisk leash walks each day, but would thrive as a walking, running or hiking companion. He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well trained dogs. His former house/playmate was a spayed female American Staffordshire Terrier whom he loved. Since he has been with us, Cash has been quite sociable and has enjoyed contact with other dogs. We have not had him around cats.

Cash is a very affectionate dog, and likes a lot of attention. He's not the kind of dog who is going to be happy, relegated to a backyard, and left alone for hours on end. This lack of activity would be a prescription for mischief. Cash loves to play and is particularly fond of spirited ball games. Cash relishes human touch, and allows handling from people that he knows, but sometimes will shy away from strangers. Adopters should be prepared to ask strangers to allow Cash to get to know them slowly. It's unlikely that he would relish a stranger's overzealous bear hug.

Cash is a smart dog, and has Working Dog DNA. He needs mental stimulation as well as a good physical workout each day. Obedience training is the ideal activity to challenge Cash in mind and body. He responds well to positive reinforcement and Leadership training techniques. Cash knows all of his basic commands. Adopters should be able to handle cash with ease right from the beginning.

Cash has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. Cash is in excellent health, and is at an ideal lean body weight of 60 pounds. Cash is not a fan of the Vet's office. Adopters should be prepared to muzzle him before the exam, and ask for experienced Vet Tech support.

Cash has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
