Max was rescued from Toronto Animal Services on July 19th. He is approximately 2 years old and is a very smart boy. He would love a human with an interest in tricks and training. He has a playful personality and loves toys and running around with other dogs. He is very social with dogs his size but needs to warm up to bigger dogs as he meets them. Once he's over being afraid of them, it's back to play time. He does not like cats. Once playtime is over, he wants a lap to cuddle and a human to sleep with at bedtime. He loves walks and is currently being umbilical trained. He has excellent potty manners. He crates during the day when his foster mom isn't home and does really well with this. He is gentle around the food bowl and takes treats like a gentleman. He will need a firm human who knows how to earn his trust and his respect. Although we do not know his history, it is certain that he has been physically abused. He is very afraid of strangers and unless he trusts you, will not allow himself to be picked up or harnessed and leashed. His fear response is to bite and he will need a person who is not fearful of this and who will know how to respond appropriately. He has been in his foster home for five weeks now doing intensive rehab training and socialization and he has made huge progress in these areas and he needs a forever home that can continue this with him and provide the stability that will make the most difference in his comfort level and sense of security. Because of his issues, his adoptive home will need to commit to a slower adoptive process and be willing to meet Max over several visits so that Max can get to know you. This will make the transition easier for both of you. Also because of his fear response we are saying no to homes with children under 12.
Max's adoption fee is $450.00CAD.
