Handsome Astro bloated a few weeks ago. Fortunately, thanks to the quick actions of an attentive vet tech, Astro was able to get the medical help he needed and he has made a great recovery. Here he is running and enjoying himself. As weimaraner owners, you owe it to your beloved dog to educate yourself on gastric torsion("bloat"), recognizing the signs, and where to take your dog in case of emergency. Astro is ready for a foster or forever home. 3-5 years old, Astro is a very sweet, very polite, well mannered boy who does great with other dogs and is quite affectionate with people. If interested in adopting or fostering Astro, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

Please keep Astro in your thoughts and prayers. Astro bloated yesterday. Fortunately, thanks to a very observant clinic employee, it was caught extremely early and Astro is going to be fine, although he's tired and a little sore. Astro is a WONDERFUL boy and we're grateful that he will be okay. Every weimaraner owner needs to be well educated on recognizing the signs of gastric torsion (bloat) and how quickly they can get to emergency care in order to save their weim's life.

INCOMING WEIM!!! Meet Astro! Astro is an adult blue male who was seen being dumped in a grocery store parking lot. Astro is a little overweight at 87lbs but he is neutered and heartworm negative. Astro is a very sweet, affectionate boy who has charmed those who took him in and cared for him until they contacted WRS. We look forward to spending some time with Astro and getting to know him better.

About Weimaraner Rescue of the South

About Our Rescue Group...

Weimaraner Rescue of the South (WRS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and placing them into loving forever homes. We have been saving Weimaraners throughout our footprint for more than 10 years.

Our priority is to rescue Weimaraners who find themselves in animal controls and high-kill shelters in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical issues they might have including but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, and vision issues. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from "Weim-loving" people like you.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are not a shelter, therefore, we are not in one central location. We place our dogs in loving foster homes throughout the deep South so we can learn about each one enabling us to adopt them to their perfect family. Alabama hosts the majority of our rescues although we do have foster homes throughout our Southern footprint. Our dogs are not available for visitors unless an adoption application has been approved for them specifically.

Our Adoption Process...

Are you ready to adopt? Make sure you do your homework on this breed before taking this step as this is not the breed for the average household and you must be committed to their needs as well as your own. Still want to add a Weimaraner to your family? Great! Fill out a WRS Adoption Application to begin the adoption process with us. You will be contacted by one of our volunteers to begin the approval process which includes a veterinary background check, phone interview, and home visit.

ADOPTION FEES: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 OUR ADOPTION FEE FOR PUPPIES 6 MONTHS AND YOUNGER IS $375 WITH A $100 REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, $300 FOR ADULT WEIMARANERS, SENIORS AND MIXED BREEDS $225. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, and Heartworm prevention. All dogs have been fully vetted and treated for any medical issues of which we are aware.
