Olivia and Ziva are a bonded pair of delicate females rescued from South Louisiana where high kill shelters are the norm. With the help of wonderful Samaritans, all volunteers with the shelter in Vermillion Parish, these two beautiful spirits found respite and were welcomed into our care. Incredibly malnourished, heartworm positive and matted terribly everywhere, these darlings are finally finishing their protracted heartworm treatment to rid themselves of those dastardly parasites. They have gone from barely eating to dancing in front of the food container with the rest of the fosters with whom they share their home as they await their forever family. Through no fault of their own, these once loved animals found themselves homeless. How? We are not sure because there is nothing in their personalities that would suggest they were anything but incredibly loving and tender.
It was clear from the outset that neither of these dogs had ever been invited inside a house, and after a few days, they eventually followed suit with their foster brethren and would dutifully go outside, following the others nonstop. It’s no doubt they these two girls learned to trust life by following the mainstay dogs. Olivia and Ziva barely knew what to do with a toy when they first came into rescue. Now, it’s a heartwarming sight to see both of them proudly prance through the house with a ball or stuffie in their mouths. And bones? Elk Antlers? Forgetaboutit! They are in HEAVEN chomping away and enjoying the fine art of being cherished DOGS!
Olivia absolutely loves being brushed and groomed, and after watching her palpable enjoyment Ziva nudges her aside so she can have her turn. Ziva shows her appreciation by snuggling into her foster’s side as close as she can and then looks up with piercingly grateful eyes full of total appreciation. That glance alone can make a soul feel a purpose heretofore unknown. Truly. It’s those very little, but monumental things that fuel a rescuer: the moments you know you make a difference in the lives of these deserving animals. When our rescues accept love and nurture, it’s then we feel certain that such wonderment will transfer to their forever homes. If only people could be so resilient and trusting after such adversity.
Besides loving to play, the girls have discovered barking and almost surprise themselves when they hear their own noises. Sorta cute, really. Olivia always checks on Ziva, not in a protective way, but a loving, nurturing way. Tender is the best adjective to describe these two dogs, each so beautiful in their own right. Olivia’s mottled and spotted coat is absolutely gorgeous as is Ziva’s shiny, almost irridescent raven fur. The ideal home for this lovely duo is one where they are wanted and cherished. Not a high order, but they are not high needs or maintenance dogs. They are happy dogs, full of love, ready to give and receive.
Ziva is an adorable “black golden” who is estimated to be about 3 years old. She came into our rescue at only 38 pounds. She has put on a few pounds since her arrival and should probably be around 50 pounds at her healthy weight. She is affectionate and loving.
Sister Olivia is also about 3 years old and was only 42 pounds when she arrived. This precious pup should be around 55 pounds for her healthy weight. Olivia has an adorable expression and the cutest ears. The markings on her fur resemble the stripes on a tiger! Just so cute!
The girls ride well in the car, walk relatively well together on double lead and are very smart and obedient. Quick learners, for sure! Ziva & Olivia are now up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and micro-chipped. They have been under heartworm treatment in AL and will be ready to go to her forever home in mid Sept.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.
A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
