*****IMPORTANT: Flora is NOT AVAILABLE for adoption at this time, and will NOT be present at HFE events as of yet. She has been attending rehab sessions of hydrotherapy with treadmill exercise and doing well these past few months.Thank you!*****
Flora's Story: HFE volunteers were contacted about a dog that had been possibly "hit by a car" and was in "excruciating pain all night by herself on the cement sidewalk." She had seemingly been left to die in the blistering summer sun. However, this girl had different plans, and aimed to show the world that she is a fierce survivor! HFE volunteers rushed Flora to the vet, where they found that her pelvis was fractured on both sides, and a femur was also fractured. She needed a specialty surgeon to perform FHO surgery (femoral head ostectomy). In addition, her right femur was repaired, and she had to be placed on a regimen to manage her extreme pain during her long healing process. Through it all, Home FurEver would not give up on this girl. At first, it seemed that Flora's temperament was a bit ornery. However, we quickly discovered that this disposition was just due to her severe pain, and that this girl is nothing but a snuggle-bug! Flora is full of love, and wants to be accepted by humans. She is healing remarkably well, and is already learning to walk again! We estimate Flora's age to be around 4 to 5 years. We do not know yet how she will do with children, other dogs, or cats, but she does not seem disturbed by any of the above while at the vet. Flora will have a long road of recovery ahead of her, and will need a FurEver adopter who understands the German Shepherd mentality, has the patience to facilitate her recovery, and can help bring her back to the beautiful girl she truly is. In turn, Flora will give you her full attention and big heart. She has already won the hearts of many of her followers. Flora was also heartworm positive and has already undergone treatment for it.
