My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Smokey was caught by animal control and brought to the county shelter after months of living on a golf course. While some men I know could live on the golf course, local residents didn't think it was good with temperatures increasing over 100 degrees. But three days after he was "saved" by animal control, he was placed on the euthanasia list. WAIT! This wasn't what they had in mind!

After seeing a video and plea about Smokey, we took him into our rescue. It has taken a couple of months, but Smokey is really coming out of his shell. Instead of hiding in the corner, he now socializes with the other dogs and even goes out in the yard by himself. It's time for him to venture out.

We think Smokey may do best in a home with another dog. While he does well with both male and female dogs, we think a mellow, easy-going companion would be best. During a short stint in a foster home, we found Smokey may exhibit separation anxiety if left alone. If going to live with a couple, he needs to meet both people at the same time as he may quickly attach his loyalty to one person over the other. Our vision for Smokey is a home with another dog and a couple that has typical work schedules, but loves to spend available time with their dogs. Smokey is a great car rider and would be happy to accompany you to the woods for a hike.

Smokey's adoption will start as a "foster-to adopt" to give everyone a "trial" period. The rescue will provide food and medical care if needed. Upon agreement of adoption, the donation will be $250 to help Brittany Rescue AZ provide food and medical care to other dogs in the rescue.

We believe Smokey to be between 4-5 years old. He is altered, fully vaccinate and tested negative for heartworm, tick & lyme disease.
