Patches is a sweet, happy dog. Sweet Patches was a best friend and guardian to a boy who has downs syndrome. From the time she was a puppy the boy would hug her tight and in his illness would pull on her and beat on her. She never showed aggression. She just loved him and cared for him. Patches was essentially his service and therapy dog. But she was not appreciated.
Sweet Patches is also a heroin. She saved the life of the boy’s mother when she alerted the family that there was something very wrong which took her to the hospital and saved her life. But this was not appreciated.
For all her service and love her family gave little in return and she had to live outside all of her 8 years. In the heat of summer and the freezing winters she had to live outside. Only during the very worst of winter freezes was she allowed inside. It was one of those rare winter nights that she alerted the family to the mother’s emergency. And yet, once again, she was not appreciated and she was put outside again.
When Patches recently got sick her family decided it was time to get rid of this wonderful dog. She was too much trouble. She wasn't worth the money her medical treatments would cost. When a Good Samaritan heard about this her heart broke for Patches. She immediately took her into her care and began to raise the money to board her and pay for her surgery. Patches had mast cell tumors that had to be removed before they became malignant.
Patches must be living right because none of the cancer cells had spread. Yeayyyy! The vets did miss two growths so as soon as the money for that has been raised they will be removed also. The vets say these two growths are also benign and Patches will be fine and cancer free.
Patches needs a Foster Home until we can find her forever home. Patches has to live in a cage at the vet’s office. She is good about it. She's lived through worse. But it is no way for a dog to live.
Patches is an easy dog to look after. She is a joy. She’s happy, loving, gentle. She would enjoy going on walks, cuddling with her guardian, get peanut butter treats, go swimming, and get belly rubs. Patches is house (potty) trained and crate trained and fully vetted. All surgery and vet expenses will be taken care of by the Good Samaritan.
If you can find it in your heart to give Patches a place to live until someone wants to adopt her we will eternally be grateful and so will Patches.
