Bowie's Story...
10/4/16 UPDATE:
Bowie is a distemper survivor and has been making a remarkable recovery. It really is a miracle that he is alive at all. He gets along just fine at home and is doing better than his brother, Luther, at potty training. He rings the bell to go outside. However, at this time, that horrible distemper virus has left him with some vision impairment - which has really improved. It is hard to know how much it will continue to improve. He also has some coordination issues and seems to stumble a bit when running. He and his siblings have been under constant vet monitoring since they were sick and will continue to have him checked regularly. We would like to find a neurologist to do any further testing as well. Bowie is such a sweet, cuddly boy and doesn't realize he is any different. At this point, we truly don't know what his future has in store. Five of his siblings did not survive this illness so he has proven himself to be a fighter.

That face! So sweet and sincere. <3 Bowie is a long and lean cuddle machine who is always looking for someone to snuggle up against. His sister Jennifer is his bestie for playtime and naptime. He is a chill little dude who loves exploring small cave-like spaces and climbing mountains of laundry that you’ve left on the floor. And did I mention the eyes!? Greenish-gray eyes will instantly draw you in for sleepy time kisses and hugs. Bowie is a hearty eater and will finish every drop you give him and more, feeding his muscular physique and growing big and strong every day.

The adoption fee for puppies is $175. They are dewormed, up to date on vaccinations and will come with a spay/neuter voucher as well as a microchip voucher. Adopters will need to ensure the second and third booster shots are done when needed (usually 11-12 weeks and again at 15-16 weeks) as well as rabies which can be done between 16-20 weeks. Our rescue stays in touch with adopters to help with any training support as well as to ensure that all vetting is completed for puppies.

Please note: ALL puppies need regular one on one attention from the family. They need to be socialized, potty trained, played with and learn the structure and rules of the home. They cannot be left more than a few hours at a time. If your work keeps your away from the house for more than 4 hours of the day, a puppy is not the best pet option for you or your family. Older dogs can stay alone for a longer period of time, especially if they have another pet to keep them company. Dogs left alone for too long quickly become stressed, depressed and anxious which leads to destructive and inappropriate behaviors. This is not a happy combination for anyone. We adopt out our rescue dog to be long term members of your family so we have to take all these factors into consideration when reviewing applications.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bowie, a Elon Hound (Unknown Type) puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Elon, or seeking a Hound (Unknown Type) puppy from a breeder in Elon.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elon already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elon breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elon paves the way for another one to be saved.
