This spunky little lady is Rita, a Chihuahua mix of around 8 years old. She came to us from a local town shelter and is eager to start her new life.
Rita plays coy when meeting new people but once she gets to know you she becomes quite the cuddle bug. A perfect day for Rita would be taking walks with the ones she loves, napping, and curling up on your lap for a nice rub down. Rita is a resourceful girl who knows how to entertain herself. At mealtime she likes to play catch with herself by throwing her food up in the air and catching it. Rita is polite on leash and seems to be housebroken. She would do best in a home without young kids.
If you're family likes the outdoors and strolling through the neighborhood, come meet Rita today!

About Little Shelter Animal Rescue

About Our Shelter...

Who We Are & What We Do

Little Shelter is a nonprofit animal rescue organization. We take abused and abandoned animals from the streets and from those awaiting death at the municipal pounds. We provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for these animals while they are waiting for loving adoptive homes.

All prospective homes are carefully screened to ensure happy endings. No animal is ever destroyed at Little Shelter unless he or she is incurably ill.

Spaying and neutering is important to our cause. We spay and neuter all of our animals as soon as is medically possible. The minimal adoption donation paid upon adoption includes all the medical procedures that we have done on the animal being adopted, including the spaying and neutering.

Little Shelter is situated on six acres in Huntington, Long Island, 30 minutes east of New York City. Our Sheltervale Pet Cemetery operates on three acres. There are six buildings, two kennels including outdoor runs, one large communal cattery with individual rooms for nursing mothers, an isolation and medical building and a five room house that serves as office and administrative space. At any given time, we are the temporary home to more than 300 animals.

Last year we placed over 600 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies into loving homes. With your help we will save even more this year.
