My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Finnegan
Born March 21, 2009, Male, Brown Spotted Tabby Purebred Bengal
Must be adopted with Keegan

Courtesy Post: Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this. Finnegan is not in a Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue foster home but residing with his current owner in Petaluma, CA.

There are times in rescue where your heart feels heavy because you connect with someone who so clearly and dearly loves their pets – enough to set them free, knowing that they won’t come back. At the same time, your heart feels joy and excitement because you know you can participate in finding their pets another great home where someone will be so thrilled to welcome this particular pet. Where someone will think, “Oh, my, I have been waiting for you and will treasure you for all the years we get to spend together." Well, in this case, you will be happy to welcome two of those precious creatures.

That is my introduction to the two absolutely drop-dead gorgeous and very sweet Bengal boys Keegan and Finnegan. Here is their story, told by their current owners. Since it is so well articulated, I am not even going to attempt to edit or add to it:

“My wife and I got two purebred male Bengal kittens from a breeder in 2009. They are both from the same litter and are very bonded. Since that time, we have had three children and made 2 moves. The cats always seem to have a bit of anxiety when these events occur but get over it. Our third child was born a few weeks ago and we can tell that Keegan has not been himself since our baby’s arrival. He used to come over for pets and would sleep with us at night, but is not doing so any longer.

They are adorable, loving, cuddly and very well behaved cats. They have never hissed or swatted at our children or us. They have been very tolerant of hugs and loves from our toddlers. We will miss them dearly, but think that the best choice for them is a new, quiet home. They will do best in a home with no children and likely no other pets. They have never been around other pets or animals so I am not sure how they will react.

Both Finnegan and Keegan are very playful. They like ribbon toys, tunnels (cats or children’s versions), and puff balls (the arts and crafts type from Michael’s). Finnegan used to play fetch, but has not in the past few years. They can often be found chasing each other through our children’s tunnel.

They also love when we change sheets in any bed and like to play with us through the process.
They are the most gentle cats I’ve ever been around and even when they are very playful, they will only bat at you with the pads on their paws and make sure to avoid their nails.

Neither boy likes to be held but they will allow you to pick them up if you must. They are lap cats though! If we cuddle up on the couch with a blanket, they hurry over to sleep in our laps or next to our hips. Most nights, they sleep on our bed. Keegan prefers to be at our feet and Finnegan likes to be between Chris and me around waist level.

They enjoy greeting you by rubbing against you and will lean their faces into yours to give “kisses” with their noses if you are talking to them. They both do like children and Keegan will sometimes sleep with our oldest; however the daily noise and hustle and bustle of little children has gotten overwhelming for Keegan. The best fit would probably be a home without children or with children 12 or older. Finnegan is more talkative than Keegan and he will often call us to bed because he is ready to cuddle.

At the moment we do not have an outside enclosure, but because our yard is safe, they are allowed supervised time outside. They will explore and often go back in on their own to nap on their cat tree. Both cats love being brushed, and are okay with allowing us to trim their nails; Keegan is more resistant and it can take multiple days with trim all 4 paws.

It is with a heavy heart that we are looking for a new home, but it’s become very clear that Keegan is not as happy/comfortable as our family grows. He becomes uneasy with infant cries and does not interact with us much even when we have time to provide focused affection and attention.

Both are neutered and chipped. Their microchip service needs to be renewed, which should be done while updating with the new owner’s information. To be clear, these boys are bonded and will need to be adopted together. We are looking specifically for a Bengal-experienced new home that will treasure these magnificent boys and will commit to providing them a forever home.
