Bernie is a 13-year-old, 14-pound Shih Tzu. He gets along well with other dogs and cats and enjoys meeting new people. He's a little love bug once he really gets to know you. He relishes going for short walks. Bernie is housetrained, easy going and even-tempered. You can feel comfortable giving him free range of the house while you're gone, and when you return expect a few small, happy 'hello' barks. Otherwise, he's not much of a talker. At night, Bernie is happy to curl up next to you. He's even been known to hop in bed with other dogs for a snuggle. He has dry eye and will need eye drops for life. The good news is, he's a good boy when getting his drops. He also has environmental allergies so he is on Atopica daily to control itchy skin and must stay current on flea prevention. He also has chronic ear infections that need ongoing monitoring. He also has a slow growing anal mass that may cause him problems one day, but for now it is being monitored at his annual vet check up. Bernie came to POMDR when his guardians could no longer care for him. He was adopted to a lovely active senior and was with her for a year. She passed away suddenly in February 2016 and Bernie has been looking for a forever home ever since. With his multiple health issues, we know Bernie may be in foster care for the rest of his life, but if a special adopter comes along for him, we would be willing to adopt him out. He'll make someone a devoted companion. Bernie makes his foster mom smile every day.
