About Ashe Humane Society
About Our Rescue Group...
We are a small Humane Society located in the mountains of northwest North Carolina and have our 501c3. We are here because we want to help put an end to the euthanasia of adoptable animals, find homes for animals in need and educate the community on being a responsible pet owner along with the importance of spay/neuter.
We operate with a small group of dedicated volunteers and raise funds through various fundraisers, donations and grants. We are not a fulltime shelter, our animals are in foster homes during the week and come in for adoptions on Saturday. Local residents are welcome to bring animals in that they are trying to rehome. We ask people to please call out office for our guidelines when bringing their animals in for adoption.
We pull animals from our local Animal Control facility for placement into foster homes. We are always looking for people willing to foster animals so we can save more lives. The Humane Society will provide food and supplies and take care of medical costs.
We also provide low cost spay/neuter assistance to residents of Ashe County using a voucher system. We have limited funds available to reduce the cost further to pet owners showing financial need.
We also operate an emergency food bank to assist pet owners through rough patches. This, of course, is dependent on the availability of pet food.
We are currently working towards being a full time "No Kill" shelter but we need volunteers and funds to make that happen. If you would like to help please call our office or send an email, we would love to hear from you!

Our Adoption Process...
An application and adoption agreement must be filled out and signed prior to adoption. All animals available for adoption require a home visit and/or vet reference check.
If you rent an apartment or your home, we require that you bring a signed document from your landlord stating that pets are allowed.
We will not adopt out animals to be given as gifts.
Any other animals in the home must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations. All pets over the age of 4 months should have a current rabies vaccination.
We do not hold animals for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis, unless we have an approved application and paid adoption fee.
We reserve the right to decline an adoption application.
Adoption fees are as follows:
Female Dog $80 Male Dog $70
Female Cat $65 Male Cat $45
Animals in our foster program have been wormed, cats tested for feline leukemia and dogs tested for heartworm, age appropriate vaccinations are up to date and animals over the age of six months have been spayed or neutered. If you adopt an animal under the age of six months you will recieve a voucher to have this procedure done when the animal reaches six months. The voucher is included in the adoption fee.
We do have limited hours and most calls and emails will be returned within 24 hours but may take up to 48 hours. We will get back to you.
