My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER LOCATION: Nampa, ID

Whitney, a two-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix who is simply a joy to be around. She loves to cuddle and will follow her person anywhere. She wants to sleep on the bed with you, and on the chair next to you or on the ottoman in front of you. Whitney is a very cheerful dog, always aiming to please. Sadly despite all of that Whitney found herself alone in a shelter without her people – Fuzzy Pawz couldn’t stand the look in her eye so they placed her in their foster care program.

She loves to go places and will run to get in the car when invited, and sometimes just because the door to the garage is open. Whitney is house broken, and is learning to use the dog door. She’s not too sure about the flap yet. She walks well on a leash, and will sit quietly by your side on her own if you stop to wait for something. She will stay on command if encouraged, but does not obey the sit command. Whitney comes when called in the yard. We don’t know if she would be so accommodating off leash and distracted.

Whitney loves other dogs. She happily runs around and plays with her foster dog friends. She also loves to play with her toys, tossing the stuffies around and chewing on hard rubber Kongs. She doesn’t chew on people stuff, but will haul in chunks of dried dirt, peach pits. Whitney loves people, but will bark when strangers come in the house before going up to them to be pet. We do not know how she is with cats.

A young dog, Whitney is active and will need a home with another small dog friend, or plenty of one-on-one playtime and walks. While she is a loving companion that would be happy keeping an older single or couple company, she would also most likely be good with children if they are not too small. She is a little dog, weighing only about eight pounds, and could easily be injured if the play is too rough.

Whitney has fine, curly hair that is very prone to matting if not taken care of. In addition to regular brushing, which she tolerates quite well, she will need a professional groom every six to eight weeks to keep her white hair clean and clipped.

She isn’t afraid of loud noises (recent fireworks didn’t phase her), but she is timid and will lay in a submissive posture if anyone leans over her. We expect this behavior is temporary and will pass when she feels confident in a home of her own.
