My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LeiLani is the cutest little female Shih Tzu going. Her Hawaiian name comes from her desire to wiggle her bottom (Hula dancer style). Lani, as we call her, arrived at the Safehouse on 06/16/2016. She was picked up as a stray by animal control. A matted, filthy flea bitten mess, the hair covered her eyes so thickly that we had no idea this little girl was totally blind. We guess she was born in late 2014, early 2015. She has a thick dark gray coat with light tan markings and weighs 8 pounds. Apparently sightless from birth, she was able to get around just fine because she had never known any other world except the black one she lived in. We cleaned her up and discovered the most adorable, curious, into everything young pup imaginable. Not willing to accept anything but the best for our Safehouse dogs, we took Lani to the very special eye veterinarians at Animal Eye Consultants. Dr Lindley recommended we remove her right eye which was severely damaged and might cause future problems but she felt surgery could provide Lani with sight in her left eye. WOW!!! Expensive surgery, true, but giving a little Shih Tzu sight for the first time in her life for the rest of her life, no question, we did it. Lani can see now. It took her a while to learn to see, her brain was unsure of what to do with this new input but it didn’t take Lani long to figure it all out!! You should see her go. Lani is doing well on her housetraining, right now she uses a doggy door and weewee pads but she is a smart little girl and should pick up your house rules in no time. Lani loves chew toys, treats, playing with other little dogs and lots of hugs and tummy rubs. Her future as a normal happy beloved pet has already begun; she will need no special care other than daily eye drops. All LeeLani needs is the warmth of a loving home and a very special forever family to provide the happily ever after to her remarkable rescue story. LeiLani is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical and dental. Her adoption fee is $400.
