RIO is quite a character of a cat, from his big golden eyes, freckled nose, soft orange tabby fur, and long tail that wags madly when he is happy. He is about 5 to 6 years old, and was found starving and abandoned last Spring. He has a great personality for a companion cat: he is intelligent, cooperative, and enjoys the sound of human voices. Rio is a very large boy who is not crazy about being picked up (he would not be good with active younger children), but he likes to give head bumps, sit in your lap, and generally be around his people and watch all their doings. He is a tolerant and adaptable cat who is also comfortable being on his own for part of the day. He is energetic and playful, and can’t resist a toy on a string. Rio is a dominant kitty who would do best as the only cat, and he is not a fan of dogs (unless they are smaller than him). He is good with his scratching post and litter box, and has left the furniture alone in his foster home. He has sensitive skin, but does fine as long as he is kept flea-free (indoor only), has a high quality diet, and is not subjected to alot of stress. If you want a smart and loyal companion, Rio is your little man!! He has been tested for feline leukemia and FIV (he is negative), neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, defleaed and dewormed—plus you get a free vet visit. Rio is in currently in foster care. About West Coast Dog and Cat Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Our mission is to provide care and find loving homes for companion animals of our community, with a focus on those with special needs. Currently we only work with Cats. We offer temporary housing in foster homes until they can be placed through our adoption process. We have adoption centers within both Petsmarts in Eugene, at Chad Drive, near Costco, and 29th and Willamette; PetCo by Valley River Center and Wags Emporium on Coburg Rd. WCDC works with humane societies, other animal rescue groups, the public and government animal services agencies to offer them relief from their overpopulation problem. All cats in our custody receive the medical care they need. WCDC is a non-profit organization. All money raised is used to help WCDC save as many animal lives as possible.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our cats can be seen at Petsmart on Chad Drive and on Willamette St, at Petco near Valley River Center and Wags Emporium on Coburg Rd, seven days a week during normal business hours. We do have adoption counselors available on weekends or by appointment or from 11-4pm Sat.-Sun.

Our Adoption Process...

All potential adopters are required to complete our application and contract. Our contract stipulates the requirements for care of our pets. These documents are available through e-mail or at our adoption events. The documents are reviewed by our staff and together with a face to face interview we explore the potential new home. If all parties agree to the specifics of the contract the dog or cat can go home. Adoption fee varies with age of pet.
All pets are current on vaccinations, health checked by our veterinarian, De-wormed, treated with flea medication, spayed or neutered, and cats are felv/fiv tested.
