Gidget is one of the unluckiest and luckiest dogs in San Antonio. She was picked up by animal control in early April and was in horrible condition. She was discribed as matted, fleas, scabs on ears, heavy tartar on teeth and a dangling right back leg. She weighed 6.5 pounds and was estimated to be 6 years old. In May, when we received her, her right back leg had been amputated, she had had a dental, but she was weak and underweight. She also seemed to have an issue with her eyes. We allowed her a few days of rest and eating as much as she wanted and we began her follow up vet visits with our private vet. While at her first vet appointment, Gidget began gushing blood from her amputated stump. She was immediately rushed into surgery, where they found a suture had slipped loose from an artery. She would have died if we had not been at the vet clinic when it happened. After she was stabilized and recovered from that trauma, we had her eyes examined and she is blind in her left eye. Through all of this Gidget fought to survive. She was the perfect patient. She has since recovered very well, well enough to find a new home. She has gained weight, now 7.5 pounds, and has gained a lot of strength. She is able to maneuver around the house and yard without any problem at all. She is not into playing with the other dogs, but will tolerate them. She is very housebroken, sleeps very well in her little bed in the bedroom at night, and has a great appetite. She will allow you to pick her up and she will sit in your lap and be calm and very content. She has been groomed and after much discussion and verification, we believe her to be a Chinese Crested Powder Puff mix. She is very quiet, independent and loyal. Gidget is spayed, vaccinations up to date, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She would be an excellent dog for apartment life. She would be great with an older person or couple, but no small children. Her adoption fee is $200
