My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. ADR is not responsible for the health, temperament, behavior or placement of this dog. Listings are done at the request of the dog's owner and as an outreach and community service in hopes of finding these dogs a loving, stable forever home. Placement decisions are made solely at the discretion of the owner, and not Austin Dog Rescue. Owners are required to ask for an adoption fee from adopters.

This is the information that we received from Tony's owner:

Tony is an almost 12-year-old Blue Heeler. I got him as a puppy from an abusive home when I was a senior in high school. When I graduated, my mom was happy to keep him as her own. He lived with her for many years after that, but her health started to decline, and I had to move her closer to me. I took in all her animals - cats and dogs - on top of my cats I already had, and was living in a 500-square-foot apartment. It was just too small for so many pets, so I reached out to some close friends to see if any of them would be willing to adopt some of my mom's pets just because it was too many for me to be able to responsibly keep myself. My friend said he would be happy to take Tony. I was so happy, and Tony went with him to live in his big house with a nice big back yard. A few years into that, my friend got married started having babies and his wife wanted the dog out. My friend called me, and said he had to get rid of Tony. He said I could take him back or he would have to surrender him.

Being Austin born and raised, and an extreme animal lover, I hated the thought of not knowing what would happen to Tony in an already over-populated shelter, so I went and picked him up. I have 6 rescues of my own right now (at least now my home is larger then the 500 square foot back then), so I took him back to my mom's. She has been able to watch him for these past couple weeks. She is actually moving again here in September, and can't take him to new place. I've been posting everywhere, asking everyone I know, trying to find him a new home. My time is running out, and I'm getting very scared about being able to find a home for him. He's the sweetest boy, but not too fond of cats, even though he was raised around them when he was younger.

He can be a little bashful, but after the first pet on his head, he won't stop licking you! He's very loyal and obedient. Tony's just an old man who likes walks and watching TV. Tony is 43 pounds and neutered.
