Important Note

Muffin is best friends with Ruffles. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Muffin is over 6 years old and is a sweet and independent guy. When he's out of the cage he is too interested in exploring to take treats, but if the door is closed he is looking for them! Muffin loves to climb out onto my arm and nibble my glasses <3
Muffin must be re-homed with his pal Ruffles, they have been together for a year now.

About Maine Chinchilla Shelter

About Our Shelter...

We love chins! There is no other shelter in New England that answers the specific needs of chinchillas. Many chins are surrendered to animal shelters each year, with tragic consequences. Most shelters are not equipped with the necessary environmental controls, cages, food, or expertise a chin needs during their transition. Often surrendered chins come from neglect, because the owners weren't taught how to properly care for or relate to them. At MCS we repair their bodies and trust, restoring them to health & happiness, then carefully match them to a knowledgeable caring owner.

Come Meet Our Pets... has photos and descriptions of chins waiting for their forever homes. When you are ready to adopt, submit an application and we'll contact you to set up an appointment.

Our Adoption Process...

After an adoption application is received a potential adopter visits our facility to meet the chinchillas. During the visit each adopter is educated in chin care, behavior, and handling. Before chins leave for their new home a no breeding contract is signed, ample printed care information is provided, and we strongly encourage new owners to contact us with any question large or small. :)
