Facts about Sheba

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Black (All)
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
In many ways, Sheba reminds us of sweet summertime. Bright and beautiful like summer skies, full of life and warmth, with occasionally unpredictable bouts of weather. Much like the way sweltering heat can cause a sudden downpour, so too can the chaos of the shelter overwhelm a cat like Sheba. With striking, golden eyes as bright as the sun, Sheba watches the other cats bounce around the shelter and can become stressed and aggravated. In the quieter moments, Sheba is delighted to climb into a willing volunteer’s lap for some quality cuddles, but once things get busy again she is ready to retreat back to the refuge of her kitty condo. Sheba would be happiest in a peaceful home where she can enjoy the simple things in life, like warm patches of sunshine and lots of toy mice to hunt. While she doesn’t enjoy having quite so many furry neighbors, Sheba might be willing to share a home with a nice, laid-back cat sibling. Summer will be gone before you know it; don’t miss your chance to come meet Sheba.

About Protectors of Animals

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Cat and Kitten Adoption Events and Open House every Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at our cat shelter: 144 Main Street, East Hartford, CT. Visit and interact with our cats and kttens in our feline playroom to help make the perfect selection for your home.

Petsmart at 5 Main Street, East Hartford, CT has a selection of our available cats that need loving homes. You can visit them anytime during Petsmart's hours. Our Adoption Process...

We do have a screening and application process. We ask that folks fill out the easy 2 page Adoption Application at and e-mail it to the identified placement focal on the dog's bio,, fax it or bring it with you to our Adoption center any Saturday from 10am-4pm or during the week by appointment. Protectors of Animals may require a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at
