Facts about Lebowski

  • Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
  • Color: Gray/Blue/Silver/Salt & Pepper
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
**Lebowski is currently being fostered in Houston. His local area adoption fee is $300. He is also available for out-of-state adoption to the perfect family. His out-of-state fee is $500 which includes flight and a kennel. If the adoption out-of-state, meeting him prior to his adoption will not be possible. He is fully vetted. Because it is expensive to care for the dogs, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**

We came across Lebowski on what would have been his last day before he was euthanized at the shelter because of lack of space. He actually caught the eye of three volunteers at different times during the day, so we felt it was fated that we figure out a plan to save this handsome man’s life. We lovingly refer to him as Mr. Fatty Fat Head and Mr. Chunky Monkey, because his head is roughly the size of a bowling ball! He is a big hunk of love who instantly lights up the room when he comes into it.

Lebowski shows the signs of a dog who lived most of his life outside prior to coming in to rescue. He has some callouses on his hind quarters and needed some adjustments to living inside! He is a very smart boy who will do pretty much anything for a treat. He is learning fast, but is still a bit of a work in progress. While he does fairly well with similar size females, but is rough with small dogs and he cannot live with kitties.

He is very desperate for attention, likely having not had a lot of care in his former life, so he is working to be calm and understand that he is loved. He is a bit of a jumper and can be the definition of bull in a China shop. He generally calms down quickly, but would benefit from an owner who will work with him on his calmness using positive reinforcement. Lebowski shows signs of having been hit in his former life, so it is very important that his new family is committed to positive forms of reinforcement and training. We would be happy to set his adoptive family up with one of our trainers to help everyone do the best job at making his homecoming a successful one.

Lebowski is roughly 3 years old and in the upper 60-pound range. He is very muscular, but not very graceful. Because of that, we don’t think he would be well-suited for a home with babies as he may unintentionally plow them down in an attempt to love them, but he really loves older kids and is very gentle with them.

Lebowski loves anything he can chew on, a good Elk antler is his favorite thing ever. He will be content for hours with a good bone and a snuggly blanket. Lebowski has done very well with his kennel training and will quietly sleep in his kennel when necessary. He has also done very well on his house training and will let you know when he needs to go outside.

Lebowski has been fully vetted and he has an entirely new shiny coat that has grown in and kicked out his dry and brittle fur. Unfortunately, since he was not taken care of in his former life, he is heartworm positive. He is not in any pain and does not have any damage to his heart. He has been started on a slow-kill heartworm protocol and the rescue would provide the medications that he will need in order to complete his treatment. It is not complicated, but important that his family make it a priority to give him his medication twice a month.

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org. Please hover over the adoptables tab for a link to the application. We can generally process applications within 5-7 days and would like adoptive families to be able to take custody of the dog within two weeks of the process being finalized.

If you have any questions about Lebowski or the process of adopting long-distance, please email us at adopitons@reggiesfriends.org

About Reggie's Friends- Austin

About Our Rescue Group...

Reggie’s Friends was founded out of our love for helping dogs. Living in a city of 1.2 million homeless animals, there was rarely a day when we didn’t see a dog in need of help. Instead of just wanting to do something, we figured out how to do something! Reggie’s Friends is dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs in and around the greater Houston, TX area. We focus our attention on helping shelter dogs, street dogs, and dogs who have been abandoned in boarding facilities find loving, forever families.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process begins with an adoption application and a home visit. Once an applicant is approved, an adoption contract and fee are required before the dog can join their new family.
