Skillet is a tall, handsome American Fox Hound (mix), with great markings and those loveable hound ears. (Dogs like him are winning top prizes in dog shows these days and they make EXCELLENT house dogs.) He is about 3 years old and weighs about 60 pounds (he is working on gaining more weight). He is very friendly and loves affection, almost more than he loves cookies! He and his friend Spencer were stray dogs that no one claimed while they were at Animal Control, so Skillet is with us now—and we are very much enjoying him! (Spencer has already been adopted.)
I played with Skillet while a child’s birthday party was happening at the shelter. He was such a happy boy and he really LOVE being around the children. He was standing tall on his hind legs and kissing them through the fence whenever they would come near him. With me, he very gently stood tall to hug and kiss me too. When I told him to get down, he did, as long as I went down to his level and showered him with love. Skillet is a real “love bug” who loves to give hugs and receive kisses. He is very debonair too, and he has the most beautiful and gentle eyes.
Skillet loves to go out into the big yard with me and we walk together as we explore. He comes to me for treats and he comes when I call him. He looks beautiful as he runs like the wind, stopping just as he gets to me. (He is learning to “sit” for treats.) He accepts treats with a very gentle mouth and he loves to sit beside me as I brush him and love on him. He also loves to lie in the sun as I pet him. Skillet LOVES being with people more than he likes anything else. “To be included in a good life with his people” is what this sweet boy wants and needs.
Take a very good look at him and KNOW that if you and he are a good fit for each other, he could be your very own HOUSE HOUND! (House Hounds are all the rage—just ask anyone who has one. And the American Fox Hound won Best in Show in several breed competitions in 2015 and 2016.) He would do well in a family that had children six years old or older. Even though he loves the little kids too, he could easily “bowl them over” with his love.
