Dietrich (aka Dieter, Old Man) is a big love bug. He’s a happy, affectionate, friendly dog who’s never met a stranger. He especially loves men but loves everyone. He is a hit at the local brewery each time he goes. He is house trained and can anticipate when I am leaving the house and crates himself! (Could have something to do with the treats he gets when he crates) He gets along with my two dogs (even the Malinois, who is in his face nearly all the time) but does bark at dogs he hasn’t met. He went suddenly nose to nose with a cattle dog at the brewery and was doing very well until the other dog tried to bite him. He unloaded the big bark but did not try to reciprocate and walked away with no trouble. Yes, he’s 9. He has one hip that’s a bit wonky but since he’s been with us his backend has gotten stronger and stronger. He runs for the ball and chases after the two younger dogs, then lays in the shade and chews on his jolly ball. He whines- used to be all the time, but has learned that whining gets you nothing here so he’s all but stopped- and for some reason he feels that water hoses are here to kill us all, so simple remedy…put him inside while watering the plants. He knows come, down, crate. He knows sit too but we don’t make him on our slippery floors. All in all he’s just a great dog. If you are looking for a dog that will sit with you by the fire, wander through the neighborhood with you, and just love you forever this is your dog.
