My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roux is a very affectionate, mellow and intelligent 1 year old border collie mix (mixed with husky/aussie?). He is good with strangers, cats, kids, most other dogs, and has excellent house manners (quiet, non-barking and non-destructive; he entertains himself when house is empty). He is crate trained, knows at least 50 commands, excellent off leash recall, and even had some service work. He's been trained to skijour and bikejour (pull someone on skis/bike), and would do very well with someone who wants to go for long adventures (it takes a lot to wear him out, but he's happy relaxing at home in between adventures). He's been through manners and service-training classes and even passed a sheepherding trial with top marks (he can be registered full ABCA if you'd like).

With his rare, red fur, he often gets compliments and people calling him a fox (Roux, "roo" is french for 'red'/fox). I have to find a new home for this fantastic foster dog mainly as the lady he was being service-trained for unexpectedly passed away. I wish I could keep him personally, but we now live in a house with an aggressive/territorial dog (who would likely not find a new home). Because of this living situation, I am currently working on mellowing out some dog reactivity with Roux - overall, he is very friendly with dogs, but lately will bark/lunge at some strange dogs (usually un-neutered). This is situational, and there has been marked improvement over the past month with behavioral/positive-reinforcement training and temporary fosters in homes with well-behaved dogs. He is still young and impressionable, and needs to be in a home without an aggressive dog teaching him behaviors. We expect with time and a better living situation, he will learn how to say hello again in a friendly fashion.
Roux would do best in an active home with another, friendly dog or cat (although he is fine solo, he much prefers dog company). He is currently being fostered between Mammoth Lakes and San Diego, and I am happy to meet you to introduce you to Roux. I will request a moderate rehoming fee to cover a small portion of the neuter, microchip, vaccines, training and he will come with plenty of dog supplies.
