My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: This is a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Please do not contact ARRF, as we do not know this pet personally. Meet this pet by contacting WAGGING DOG.ORG at info@waggingdog.org.

Fern is a gray Staffordshire/Boxer mix who is about 7 years old. She weighs 43 pounds. Miss Fernie has the cutest under bite and soulful eyes which add to her quiet charm. Unfortunately, she has chronic liver disease. It cannot be repaired, only managed. She is a sweet girl seeking some special folks to help her enjoy whatever time she has on this earth. WAGGING DOG.ORG – her foster group -- has no idea how long she'll be with us. It could be months, it could be a year or even two, and we're doing all we can to reach the latter goal with quality. Her liver is leaking toxins into her body, and she has been to many veterinarians and a holistic vet in the hope of curing her. Sadly, that will not happen. However, Fernie takes a host of meds and supplements each day and they are doing some good. She is feeling noticeably better since we started her liver meds, and we are anxious to see how the addition of new supplements and herbs help her.

WaggingDog.org is looking for a long-term compassionate foster for our sweet Fernie. She is not losing her current foster home. We are just hoping to find an even more perfect spot for her as a WDR Forever Foster Dog. As a permanent ward of our rescue group, WDR provides everything she needs, and her caregiver/pet parent makes sure she's well cared for and loved to pieces.

Fern is an easy dog. She never barks. She's super low energy although she does get excited to go for her short walks and also for food :) She loves people, but will be most comfortable in a quieter home with older children and no small dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, etc. A lot of stairs in the home may be difficult for her. She would be perfect for empty nesters or retirees who would like the quiet companionship of a sweet blue lady with golden orbs and who will not mind being creative with meals every once in a while. An occasional visit to the vet for checkups might be necessary, but all the big stuff is completed.

If you or anyone you know might be an ideal candidate for a long-term compassionate foster in Southern California for our beautiful girl Fern, or you have a few extra bucks that you can send her way each month, please reach out to our group and join Fern's Fab Force.

Thank you to everyone who helped us get Fern to this place, and all those who will continue to help provide for her care as a WDR Forever Foster. For more information about our group, visit our website: WaggingDog.
