My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The original Abraham Lincoln is quoted saying "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Our Abraham Lincoln feels the exact same way. This young male dachshund is ~1 year old, weighs ~18 lbs, and is ready for his new life in a forever home...and boy does he have plenty of life to live. Abe was found by a Good Samaritan who nursed him back to health while unsuccessfully searching for his owners. Ultimately, the Good Sam turned to DREAM to help Abe finish his journey home.

Abe is your typical dachshund. He's funny, witty, curious, and head strong. He doesn't meet a stranger, loves to go for long daily walks, and enjoys a good squeaky toy. He will try to be a tad bit bossy at first with the other dogs in a home, but he also listens to them and will accommodate their requests. He's still a young lad at ~1.5 yrs old, so he's got lots of life lessons to learn. He does not mark in the house but does need plenty of patience & focus while going outside to do his big business. You simply can't rush perfection. And his foster mom has figured out that he responds extremely well to positive reinforcement after achieving his outside goals. He's learned to treasure that special moment of success and affection.

If you are interested in adopting Abraham Lincoln, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml . Abraham Lincoln 's adoption fee is $450. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Abraham Lincoln will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
