This just in! Playful pup goes for the ultimate gold- a forever home. The name's Rio, and I'm an adorable 11 month old puppy with big dreams.  When I first came into the shelter as a stray at the shelter,  I was pretty nervous.  But since moving over into a foster home where I can get the one on one coaching I need, I sure have come a long way.  In my free time, I enjoy snuggling, playing with toys, and meeting new friends.  But for a puppy like me, it's not all fun and games, I am working on my training as well.  I am already well on my way to being house-trained and my foster mom says that I am a responsive and loving pup who is sure to go far.  I would fit into just about any family, as long as they are dedicated to continuing my training to help me reach my full potential.  I even do well with other dogs.  I have been tested with children and like playing with gentle, respectful little people.  MMR believes I will do best if I am in a home with children over the age of 10 years.  I also need to have another friendly, fun loving little dog already living with my new family.  I like having a buddy to play with, and will catch on quickly if I have someone to take the lead.

My foster Mom says I am almost house trained, but I still need someone home with me to take me out every few hours, especially when I am learning the new routine.   If both my new pet parents work, they will need to have a dog walker come often to take me outside for bathroom breaks. I would be fine if my family wants to baby gate in in the kitchen or another safe area with my canine friend, but I CANNOT BE CRATED.  MMR is recommending this because I did so poorly in the shelter kennels and they believe the crate will frighten me.  I don't need a fenced yard, but one is strongly preferred.  I still need a little work on my leash manners, but walk well enough on the leash  for bathroom breaks and socialization time.
If you think I may be the doggie superstar for you, and have another small doggie buddy for me to play with,  please fill out an application and ask for Rio!!!   Well, I think that covers it.  Want me on your team?   Apply today!!!

My adoption fee is $350, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

If you can't adopt me, consider sponsoring my care and being a rescue angel. Click on the DONATE button below and chip in what you can. Your donation is tax deductible and helps us save more lives!

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.

About Mutts Matter Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

A Little History... Mutts Matter Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non profit, all volunteer based organization, with combined rescue experience of over 15 years. We work in conjunction with shelters and other organizations to help save animals on death row, the strays on the street, or ones in unsafe living conditions. We adopt in the DC, VA, and MD areas, with a few exception out of the tri-state area depending on the dog and situation. We are driven by love, compassion, and hope.

All of our rescues enter their new home spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, and are micro-chipped. If we take a dog into our rescue, we do our very best to ensure that they are healthy before going to their new “furever”home. With enough hard work and dedication, we hope to be able to empty the shelters one day soon.

Our Adoption Process...

We require you to fill out an adoption application on our website at
The application will ask for both a vet and personal reference. Both will need to be verified. After those are checked, a pre-screener contacts you to discuss your application.
Once that is complete, they screener decides if they are recommended for a home visit. If the home visit goes well and they are approved to adopt, then they can meet the dog.
Our adoption fee includes the cost of routine vetting, spay/neuter, and microchipping.
