Ike's Story...
Whelped: 2/13/08

Temperament: Ike, a beautiful greyhound mix, is now a year old. He is loving and very affectionate and loves tossing his toys up in the air. He enjoys playing with water with the garden hose and chasing the water as it sprays. He is well-mannered in the house with his foster family and gets along well with the Shelties and female greyhound in his foster home. He is also fine with the caged bird. Ike attends meet and greets and does well with the other greyhounds and people, although he is a little too interested in small dogs. He is cat-curious, and although he leaves cats alone when corrected, we would prefer to place him in a home without cats. Ike has been trained using the Positive Training Techniques method and has attended a 6 week "Adult Dog Manners" class with his foster dad and has done very well. Upon command Ike will sit, down and stay. His stay time is building and we work on it daily. Ike loves to shake hands and is learning to fetch and return. Ike is very strong and has learned to walk on the Gentle Leader Easy Walk harness and is doing quite nicely on his walks. Ike gets excited sometimes on his walks but with encouragement, he knows to re-focus back on the person who is walking him.

Ike’s ideal home will have at least one other active dog for him to run and play with!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ike, a Tampa Greyhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Greyhound for sale in Tampa, or seeking a Greyhound dog from a breeder in Tampa.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tampa already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tampa breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Greyhound breeders who help with Greyhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tampa paves the way for another one to be saved.
