DOGS/CATS: Great with other small dogs, Unsure with cats
CHILDREN: Great with children

Nellie is the mother of our latest brood of pups. She was picked up by a good Samaritan off the highway near Huntsville close to the the Sam Houston statue. She took her to her vet who told her that she was probably pregnant. By the time we got her we could just get ready for the pups. She gave birth to six adorable pups, four girls and two boys.

Nellie we discovered had heartworms, hookworms and roundworms. Absolutely loaded with them. Luckily at only about 2yrs of age we will be able to rid her of these nasty pests. She has been treated for all of them and will be cleared of all before she is ready for adoption.

In the meantime, we have come to know her personality well. This little girl wants to be at your side as much as possible. Not so much though that we are seeing any separation anxiety. But if you are in the kitchen, so is she, or on the couch, so is she, or outside, so is she, and so on!! Speaking of outside, this little girl is a huntress!!! When she spots something to possibly catch, she is on point! Heaven help any squirrels that should venture within her reach. I seriously think she would climb a tree to get one if she could.

Nellie is definitely not all chihuahua. If one were to guess she looks like she might have some Italian Greyhound in her. Out of sheer curiosity of what breed the pups may be made of we did a Wisdom Panel DNA test on one of them. This revealed that Nellie is half chihuahua with some American Eskimo and little bit of the unknown! No one would have guessed American Eskimo! If you adopt Nellie, we will be happy to provide you with a copy of the DNA test.

Nellie is very intelligent and can work her way through and around just about anything. She has drive but not a super high energy. I think she will make someone a very good dog! No chain link fences for her, she will climb. She is crate trained but prefers to sleep with her humans. Sometimes she gets a little grumpy with the other dogs but it's just a vocalization to let them know. She wants to be the center of attention so if you already have a "preferred buddy" she will try like crazy to change your thinking!

Nellie's ideal weight should be around 13 pounds. She knows how to use the doggie door and does very well on a leash. We have her almost 100% housetrained with the use of a doggie door. Now she's just waiting to get well and meet her forever home.

About Chihuahua Rescue & Transport, Inc. - Dallas Chapter

About Our Rescue Group...

CRT does not warehouse dogs in a shelter. As in most rescue groups, our dogs are cared for in healthy, safe, loving foster home environments. CRT foster parents work very hard to be sure that their foster dog feels safe and loved while working on housetraining, crate training, socialization, etc. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, fecal tested, microchipped, on heartworm preventative and have all other veterinary needs taken care of (such as heartworm treatment, dentals, luxating patellas, etc.) CRT is known, and has always been known, for taking the injured, infirm and elderly Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. Please consider the adoption of one of these dogs as well. Seniors and special needs dogs make great pets too!

Come Meet Our Pets...

CRT holds various opportunities to meet the dogs looking for homes in our group. These locations, times, and places are listed on our website:

Our Adoption Process...

CRT accepts applications, checks references and requires a home visit. An adoption donation is requested. CRT does not have a shelter and all dogs are fostered in the private homes of our volunteers. Once an application is submitted the foster of the dog inquired about will contact the potential adopter to answer any questions about the dog.
