My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Nellie
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 2 years
WEIGHT: About 13 Pounds
DOGS/CATS: Great with other small dogs, Unsure with cats
CHILDREN: Great with children

Nellie is the mother of our latest brood of pups. She was picked up by a good Samaritan off the highway near Huntsville close to the Sam Houston statue. She took her to her vet who told her that she was probably pregnant. By the time we got her all we could do was prepare for the pups. She gave birth to six adorable pups, four girls and two boys.

Nellie is definitely not all chihuahua. If one were to guess she looks like she might have some Italian Greyhound in her. Out of sheer curiosity of what breed the pups may be made of we did a Wisdom Panel DNA test on one of them. This revealed that Nellie is half chihuahua with some American Eskimo and little bit of the unknown! No one would have guessed American Eskimo! If you adopt Nellie, we will be happy to provide you with a copy of the DNA test.

Nellie unfortunately was heartworm positive when we found her and could not treat her till after her pups were weened. But she has now completed her treatment for heartworm and we are just waiting for the last few lingering worms to die off, so she is good to go!

Nellie LOVES her people. She is so excited to see you when you get home and ready to greet you right away. She wants to be as close to you as possible. She is always ready to get on your lap and snuggle with you all day long; and will even burrow under blankets. She will make you feel like you are the most special person in the world. She is one of the sweetest and happiest dogs you will meet.

Nellie is very intelligent and can work her way through and around just about anything. She has drive but not a super high energy. Nellie uses the doggie door at her leisure to go to the bathroom, chase after squirrels, and bask in the warm sun. But she needs a yard with-out a chain link fence for she will climb right out if she sees a critter she needs to chase after!

Nellie also enjoys the company of other dogs. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys playing with them at their invitation. She also loves playing with toys. She just loves squeaker toys and chewing on nylabones.

Nellie walks very well on a leash and is fully housetrained with the use of a doggie door. She is also crate trained and does a really good job going in her crate when asked. She is going to make a wonderful companion and can’t wait to grant all of the love she has to offer towards her new forever family!
