Meadow's Story...
Many cats find it very difficult to adjust to life in a shelter. While we try to make them as comfortable as possible and give them a sense of security, the change can be traumatic. Sometimes we have to try different strategies to finally bring out the wonderful cat that is hiding behind the fear. One success story is that of Meadow. Meadow was found as a stray in Rochester. She was rescued by our partner, Verona Street Animal Society, and then later transferred to us looking for a home. Meadow found it extremely difficult to adjust to all these rapid changes. She was nervous with all of the other cats around, all the new people coming in every day, and the new surroundings. Meadow became very reserved and frightened. While she was still a sweet girl when approached, she preferred to stay hidden in the back of her condo. She also became very defensive of her tail/back area. She would not allow us to touch it, but was given a clean bill of health, so we realized that it was because of her fear. We knew that she needed something different, so we turned to our foster families.
Fostering is one of our most valuable resources for situations like this. Luckily, a Tabby Town volunteer decided to foster Meadow to help bring out her confidence. Meadow has been in her foster home for a few weeks now, and the change in her personality is dramatic. While it took her about a week to settle in, once she felt comfortable she let her personality shine. She is playful, friendly, and confident. She loves playing with plastic bags (under supervision) and string toys. She has endless amounts of energy! She enjoys exploring the home and is especially intrigued by the bathtub. Now that she trusts her foster family, she is fine with being pet and loved. She also allows them to pet her back since she is comfortable with them. She is still a kitty that prefers to approach you on her own terms, but her foster mom has said that she is an absolute sweetheart. She believes that Meadow will make a wonderful addition to a family.
Since Meadow is doing so well in her foster home, we will be adopting her out through there. Her new family will need to be patient, experienced cat owners, but most importantly be willing to give her all the love she deserves. Meadow should not go to a home with small children. If you are interested in adopting Meadow, please contact Tabby Town at (716) 822-4910. We have attached some pictures of her in her foster home to show just how wonderful she is doing. Please consider giving Meadow her furever home!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Meadow, a Blasdell Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Blasdell, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Blasdell.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Blasdell already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Blasdell breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Blasdell paves the way for another one to be saved.
