He came to us emaciated but has put on approx. 20 pds in the few months that we've had him and is now a good weight. He has scaring on his face and some on his body likely from his stray days (which likely included fights w/ animals over food, other, etc.) when he was fending for himself (and likely why he has the mild-behavior issues he has) but given his coloring it's not terribly noticeable (and he's beautiful no matter). We recently treated him for a possible inner-ear infection due to the way he suddenly began tilting his head but there's a chance something else medically is going on and we're working on figuring out what that might be. These things don't change Burger's need for a forever home but limit the families that will/can consider him, making him a special needs sweetheart.
Burger absolutely loves people and attention, seeking humane guidance and affection. With compassion, love and disciple, with a wonderful person/family that can fit his needs, Burger will do amazing. He has so much to offer and truly needs a lucky break. His silly puppy behavior always brings a a big smile to his foster family's faces. The way he walks over from behind and gently pushes his head through their legs looking up, waiting for some good under chin rubbing, melts their hearts. His efforts towards good behavior are truly commendable, one of their favorite is his dash (though they're working on a slower dash) with a fast sit when told to go to his bed to wait for his treat.
Burger is such a love and absolutely deserves a forever home he can finally call his own. His foster family would absolutely keep him if they could but circumstance around their living situation is not only preventing them from signing an adoption contract with his name on it but is limiting the time they can continue to foster him:( Hoping his story will touch you as he has touched us and that you will consider opening your heart and home to Burger. If interested, please don't hesitate to reach out. Burger is patiently waiting and looking forward to meeting his family soon.
OUR QUICK UPDATE WHEN WE BROUGHT HIM INTO RESCUE: Burger (AKA Cheese Burger) is in a foster home now and is available for adoption!! Will update with further information soon!!
OUR PLEA FROM WHEN BURGER WAS IN A KILL-SHELTER:
We URGENTLY need a foster or forever home for Burger!! He's currently in a high-kill shelter with limited space and a high daily intake. Once his # is up, his time will be too and he will be euthanized: ( PLEASE don't let that happen!! Apply to foster or adopt Burger today!! He may not have tomorrow: (
Although life has not been kind to Burger he holds no grudge, on the contrary, he absolutely ADORES people and can't wait to share his affection. I know it's difficult to look at his photos and watch his video but please see past his current body condition and afford him the future he deserves where he can gain appropriate weight and flourish into a well cared for canine company beautiful (already but even more so) both inside and out!!
A volunteer writes:
Burger got a “Hi Five” on his behavioral evaluation! Indeed, he is a friendly and social butterfly enjoying the company of people and dogs alike. Yet, life has not be clement to this youngster who came to us, skin and bones, with long nails and a chocolate and vanilla coat sprinkled with sores. Nothing of that, though takes away from his natural beauty… He is quite hungry but does not snatch treats from my fingers and does not mind when my hand nears his food bowl. Burger is very welcoming in his kennel and is leashed at once. He pulls a little , strolls with a happy tail, does his business in one stop and seems very excited (in a nice way) to meet other dogs. He is bouncy with his peers in playgroups . Burger owns a sunny personality, holding no grudge against life or people. He loves to hug and to be hugged. He wants (without knowing it) to move ahead, believes in the present (right now, a safe den, some canine and human company and a guaranteed meal) and in the future that can only be good…Burger fits the definition of a survivor, a trooper, a true spirit. He is an inspiration for so many of us… Please open for him the doors to a life of love and plenty….
Another volunteer writes: When I came to take Burger for a walk and told him I was then moving him up to adoptions, he smiled, his tail wagged and his eyes twinkled. Yay, said Burger, I’m going to find a new home! If any dog has a right to question the intentions of the human race it would be Burger, as he’s sadly so emaciated. We’re feeding him an extra meal daily to help him gain some weight, but absolutely nothing stops this dog from loving us. There are lessons to be learned from him. He never stops wagging his tail, loves to cuddle and give kisses, happily plays and shares his toy with me climbing onto my lap with his toy in his mouth. He even enjoys a romp on his first play date! Burger deserves a happily ever after and I can’t wait to see him well fed and happy in the embrace of his new person or family. Please apply for him today!
