Heidi is a 3-year-old female German shepherd mix. She is housetrained, loves to play with other dogs, and is good with cats and children. She loves to go for rides in the car, does well on the leash, and does not get on furniture in the house. She is slow to warm up to people, more so with men than women, and she is hesitant to go through doors, probably because of some past experience. Heidi needs patience and gentle treatment, as she will not respond well to an angry or raised voice. She bonds very strongly with her special person, to the extent that she has displayed some separation anxiety-related behavior issues when left alone. For that reason, she would do best in a household where someone is home with her most of the time. She is very intelligent and responds quickly to soft-spoken commands, and she is very well behaved when her people are home with her. She likes to be brushed once she is comfortable with someone, and she loves to play frisbee with her person and to play with mentally-stimulating toys. She needs a fenced yard for exercise, and she will dig a bit, mostly to make a cool 'nest' to lie in. Heidi has clearly had some difficult times in her earlier life, but she is a wonderful dog, and once she has bonded with someone, she loves that person unconditionally.
