Zeus is a middle-to senior-aged Chihuahua (estimated 10-12 years old) who lost his home when his elderly owner passed away. Sadly, the extended family chose not to keep him, and he found himself alone at Pima Animal Care Center. As a result of his mom's death, he was also separated from his litter mate and life-long companion, who the family chose to keep. He was sad and confused at PACC but caught the eye of volunteers and is now learning to be happy again in his foster home. During a teeth cleaning at PACC, it was discovered that he has a heart murmur and an enlarged heart, which has resulted in the displacement of his trachea. He sometimes grunts and coughs a little, but he is now taking the heart medication that he needs to get healthy and remain active. He will need to remain on these for the rest of his life. He enjoys taking short walks, walks great on a leash, gets along with other small dogs his size, and loves to cuddle with plush toys. He has not been cat-tested. He is a true lap dog, and prefers to curl up directly on your lap and follow you everywhere. He is learning to use a dog door and although he is house-trained he sometimes forgets during the night. Because of his age and health and some mild resource guarding issues we are working on (did I mention he loves plush toys!), it is recommended that Zeus's family not have children under 10. He would do best in a quiet home with a human companion who can help mend his broken heart and where he can enjoy his senior years in peace with the love and attention he deserves.
