Andy was brought to the shelter on 9/5/16 by his neighbors. He is 5-6 years old and weighs 42 lbs.  Apparently his family moved and left him behind 3 years ago! For 3 years, he lived in a backyard of an empty home with only the random appearance of people to give him food and water. As you can imagine, he is terrified at the shelter but he will soon learn that this is the best thing to ever happen in his life. We will post more about him as we get to see his true personality.

About Ritchie County Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

Our shelter is staffed by only 2 employees so we greatly depend on volunteers to help care for our animals.
We work very closely with rescue groups to help move our dogs out of the shelter quickly. Our goal is to never have to euthanize for space. We cannot do that without rescue assistance because our adoption rates are very low.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our hours are Monday-Saturday 10 AM - 3 PM and Sunday 10 AM - 12 PM.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process is fairly straight forward. We will need you to email us for an adoption application. Once the application is submitted and approved you are able to adopt.
For a spayed/neutered dog the cost is $100 (This cost could be more depending on the money we have invested in the dog.)
For an non spayed/neutered dog the cost is $50 plus a $50 refundable deposit. The deposit is refunded if your dog is altered within 30 days. (Per WV law, all animals adopted from a shelter must be altered within 30 days.)
For a spayed/neutered cat the cost is $30.
For a non spayed/neutered cat the cost is $10. (These costs could change without notice.)
