My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

First off, we just have to say: Pumpkin has THE best ears EVER! He wins the award for "Cutest Puppy Ears, 2016"! They are actually starting to lift up a bit vs. flop!

Prior to winning this highly coveted and prestigious award though, Pumpkin had been confined in a small, cement kennel or cage at the shelter for about two months until earlier this week. This was when he was about 10 lbs smaller (he now weighs approx. 40 lbs) and was maybe just six months old! It's really heartbreaking that he was not allowed to be a puppy, really, and that he's missed out on receiving any real attention/care, affection, exercise and stimulation! During some of THE most important months of a puppy's young life, he was kept in a cage, in a shelter...yet, he is SUCH a good, sweet, nice puppy, that he was a model prisoner if you will! He passed all of the shelter's behavior evaluations and tests, but after several weeks being cooped up or locked up, he became "kennel stressed" and had some GI issues! Poor baby! That's how he landed on the rescue only list and was going to be "put to sleep" if a charity wouldn't take him in/on!

We could NOT allow that to be his lot in life + the reason he had sadly landed at the shelter in the first place, back in July, was because his face and one side of his body had injuries or trauma inflicted upon him! We will never know how/who/why, but it could have been done by a person or another dog even. And so after being found by someone with the injuries or as a "stray dog" at a boat ramp/launch on the river, he was then incarcerated or thrown in the clink!

All of that is behind him now, thankfully, and he's been out of the shelter for just a few days; he is seeing the outdoors, grass, toys, nice people, a soft bed to nap and sleep upon, perhaps for the very first time in his young life! He is loving being petted, scratched and played with! He has been starved for attention/affection/food/play - you name it! He has A LOT of catching up to do and can play catch with you all day long! So if you have the energy for a puppy that needs lotsa' undivided attention, constant play/affection, and much over due TLC, please call/text us at (916) 303-0334.
