Boudleaux (f.k.a. Scallop)'s Story...
Name: Boudleaux (f.k.a. Scallop)
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix
Approximate Age: 2 years
Approximate Weight: 40 lbs.
Personality: Super sweet
Currently Living at: Foster, Scallop needs a forever home!
Introducing Boudleaux, a two year old Australian Cattle Dog mix. Cattle dogs are the Sheldon Cooper of the dog world very smart and like to work, and he is very eager to demonstrate how smart and motivated he can be! Most importantly, Cattle dogs like to be organized, and aren't into chaos.
He is an affectionate dog who needs an adopter who understands the breed and can provide him with plenty of exercise. Boudleaux can feel uncertain around new humans, so he needs a patient adopter who will make sure he gets slow introductions to make him feel more comfortable with new human friends. Once he gets to know someone he is super sweet and loves to get pets and give kisses. He is also good with children generally, but given his uncertainty around strangers, our trainer recommends that he not be placed in a home with children under 13 years old.
This sweet boy loves to play fetch and does really well on a leash. He would be a great hiking buddy. He is super clean and non-destructive. His housetraining skills are top notch.
Boudleaux had the misfortune of landing in an animal control facility that lacks the resources to facilitate adoptions to the public. He was unclaimed by the time his stray hold was up and things were looking pretty grim for him. Luckily, DC PAWS and our partner rescuer in SC were able to save his life and we're dedicated to finding the best home for him in the DC area.
Like most shelter dogs, Boudleaux may need a refresher on housetraining and crate training (he has done very well with house training according to his last foster). We ask all of DC PAWS’ fosters to work on both house and crate training with their foster dog.

About DC PAWS Rescue

Our rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based dog and cat rescue in the DC area. We partner with a local rescuer in Pickens County, SC, who saves adoptable cats and dogs from the county’s animal control facility, which lacks the resources to facilitate adoptions to the public. Without a mechanism for local adoptions, all animals not claimed within the mandated hold period are euthanized. For the animals in this rural area, rescue is really the only lifeline. Our rescue partner not only works with DC PAWS to save as many dogs and cats as possible, but she has also established a successful spay/neuter clinic in the community to decrease the number of homeless and unwanted animals over the long term.
