Remember Darla? You're probably thinking of the brown-eyed beauty from The Little Rascals. No, we mean Darla, the beautiful golden, Mountain Cur/Labrador Retriever mix who came to New Leash on Life in 2011. Darla was adopted but unfortunately her person is no longer able to care for her so she is with us again. But that means you have the opportunity to give her the fur-ever home she is looking for! Darla is about 6 years old so you may think she'll just lie around all day and dream about when she was a puppy. Wrong! Darla wants you to know that 6 is the new 3 in dog years. She says why slow down when there's so much left to explore in the world? The only thing Darla loves more than a good run is a person to play with! She loves toys too! Darla is an escape artist and has been known to scale a 5 foot fence, so if her wish comes true and you take her home, you'll need to keep an eye on her when she's in the yard. If you happen have a 6 foot privacy fence, she may find that harder to get over. Darla has had dog friends in the past, however she does not introduce herself well. We would recommend a meet & greet at our adoption center or a sleepover if you currently have another dog. As for cats, how can we put this nicely...not a good idea! Darla has never had anybody who cared enough to teach her how to be a well-mannered dog. Her exuberance for life sometimes gets the best of her. But she really loves people and wants to please. She has the potential to be a wonderful companion, if only she can find the right person. Could you be the one? Darla is spayed, micro-chipped and current on vaccinations. If you feel she might fit in your lifestyle, you can adopt her for $40 thanks to a partnership with Best Friends. **All New Leash on Life dogs must be adopted to families willing to have their pets be allowed inside-especially at night. No dog is allowed to be put on a 'tie out' or chain outside and should be walked on a leash when not in a fenced in yard.** (Pet ID D11-573)

About New Leash on Life

About Our Shelter...

New Leash on Life is dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals in our community through shelter, placement, spay/neuter, education and awareness.

Our goals include the following:

To educate the public about the importance of having their pets spayed or neutered, and to provide low or no cost surgeries for those in need.

To shelter and provide care for stray, abused, or relinquished animals.

To educate the general population about the seriousness of pet overpopulation.

To end euthanasia as a means of controlling pet overpopulation.

To find good homes for the animals in our care.

Our hope for the future is that there will be no unwanted, unloved or abandoned companion animal. We will continue with our aggressive spay/neuter campaign and our owner education programs in the hopes that any pet ever adopted will find a permanent, loving home. We believe that with the involvement of our community we will make a significant impact on the welfare of companion animals, but we need your help and understanding. Together, will make the difference.
