How I arrived: I was brought in on May 31st by a Humane Law Officer. Why I'm the one for you: My Personality Color is Green which means I'm an energetic companion who can hike the trails or accompany you on your daily run! I need tons of exercise and will always be ready for that extra walk. I can also spend hours playing fetch, tug of war, or any other fun game with you. I'm a goofy girl who appears to know "sit". I also like meeting new people and I don't seem to mind cats. I am an excellent furry member for an active family! To meet me, please contact foster@la-spca.org or call 504-762-3335. Here is an update from my foster mom: "Bessie did great in the car on the way home yesterday, and seemed excited about the ride. She is housebroken, and understands general commands. She seems to be crate trained as well. She is patient and is not food aggressive with me when offering treats and daily feedings. She loves to cuddle, but will also spend time in her bed with her favorite toys

About Louisiana SPCA

About Our Shelter...

Chartered in 1888, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) is the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state. Our mission is to advocate for the animals of Louisiana by advancing their welfare, promoting their interests, and fostering the human-animal bond through innovative programs, education, and service.

The LA/SPCA is not a state, parish or city governed shelter. We are an independent 501(c)3 non-profit offering a broad range of services and programs including advocacy, legislative services, statewide cruelty investigations, sheltering, full-service animal control (Orleans Parish only), adoption, disaster response, education, and obedience programs.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Information about adoption, including offsite adoption events, can be found on the LA/SPCA's website at

Our Adoption Process...

The LA/SPCA pet adoption process includes meeting with a matchmaker to match your lifestyle with the perfect companion. You will spend time with any of the pets you think would be a great companion. You may even want to come back another day to make sure he is the one! All of our animals must be spayed or neutered before you can take them home. Sometimes your perfect companion has not had this procedure done, so please be patient with us if you have to come back to pick him up.

All of our animals have been spayed or neutered before they are released for adoption. We encourage anyone with animals to spay or neuter their pets.
