**Blue Bell is currently being fostered in Houston. She is available for out-of-state adoption to the perfect forever family! Unfortunately, meeting BlueBell in person prior to her adoption will not be possible. Her adoption fee is $500, which will cover her transport to her new home and she is of course fully vetted. Because the flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. **

Blue Bell came to us by total happenstance. Our director was at the local shelter picking up two dogs she was putting on transport for another rescue. When she went back to get the dogs, she saw our beautiful Blue Bell in the next kennel. Blue Bell had been turned in by her former owner and she was in rough shape. She had clearly been used as a breeding dog and her poor body showed the signs of a life used and unloved. She had skin issues, broken teeth, ear infections so bad you could smell them, saggy momma parts, and a deformed leg. Our director tried the whole “the rescue is full” mantra, only to find herself on the way back to the shelter for her the very next morning feeling terrible that she left her there overnight.

Blue Bell came home to her foster where she got a much needed scrub and some well-deserved rest. Upon evaluation at the vet, it was discovered that her skin condition was allergy related and could have easily been controlled with a better diet and it was decided that her deformed leg should be amputated for her long-term health. Blue Bell underwent two surgeries, one to remove her leg and broken teeth and a second to remove a large hernia on her stomach (which was removed during her spay). We gladly welcomed her to our no-more-baby-momma club and set her on her path of healing. Her leg amputation healed better than we ever would have dreamed and she seemed to feel liberated and stared to run and play fetch!

Blue Bell is a Hound / Staffie Mix who has the most amazing spirit. She is roughly 4 years old and around 45 pounds. She is very loving with people and spending time with her foster family is her very favorite thing ever. Blue Bell loves to run and play fetch and to lay sunning on the deck on nice days. She is a medium energy dog, who does great with a good play time outside twice a day. She gets around very well on her three remaining legs and is a big fan of coming up to give her foster dad a hug when he gets home from work.

Unfortunately, we believe that Blue Bell’s past has made her a bit dog selective. She acclimates well to older, bigger dogs (at least her size) but she does not like small dogs or puppies. She also has a bit of a prey drive, so kitty siblings are also not a good idea.

Blue Bell’s ideal family will be committed to keeping her on a healthy (chicken free) diet to maintain her skin and to getting her the proper amount of exercise so that she can remain active and flexible on her remaining three legs. She would love a family with a nice yard where she can run and who would love to let her be their snuggle partner on the couch.

Blue Bell is house and kennel trained and walks well on her leash. She also looks super cute in a sweater and will your best friend if you give her the opportunity. Despite her challenges, she is loving, sweet, gentle, and affectionate with all people.

About Reggie's Friends- Portland

About Our Rescue Group...

Reggie’s Friends was founded out of our love for helping dogs. Living in a city of 1.2 million homeless animals, there was rarely a day when we didn’t see a dog in need of help. Instead of just wanting to do something, we figured out how to do something! Reggie’s Friends is dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs in and around the greater Houston, TX area. We focus our attention on helping shelter dogs, street dogs, and dogs who have been abandoned in boarding facilities find loving, forever families.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process begins with an adoption application. Our team will take some time to review it and once approved, a home visit is required. We require an adoption contract and an adoption fee to be paid prior to the pet joining their new family.
