Rescue is all about second chances. Sweet Scrappy the Beagle came into our rescue quite unexpectedly. We were down at Chicago Animal Care & Control and when leaving, came upon a gentleman and his dog in the parking lot. The man was visibly upset, and of course we had to stop to talk to him. Turns out there were some very unfortunate circumstances and he was going to have to give up Scrappy. Those of us who love our dogs can't begin to imagine the unimaginable thought of giving up our dog, but sometimes life deals you a bad hand. This gentleman tried many avenues to find a new home for Scrappy with no luck. It was very clear that his heart was breaking. Fate put us together that day and we knew couldn't stand by and see this sweet little senior to be brought into the shelter as an owner surrender, knowing that it was unlikely that he would make it out alive.

We put a plan together and got Scrappy to his foster home and allowed this gentleman who loved him dearly to be able to take a deep breath and know that his little boy would have a second chance at love.

Well, guess what? We have fallen in love with this wonderful dog! You would never know that he is 13 years young. He passed his medical exam with flying colors, his heart, kidneys, liver functioning just as they should be. He is up-to-date on his shots, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative. He will be microchipped so that everyone will always know where his home is.

He gets along with kids and other dogs and is quite "Beagley", with the joie de vivre that Beagles are known for.

He's peppy and fun, but equally happy to curl up and take a snooze. We think he'd pretty much fit into any family, be great for a single person or even terrific for an older individual looking for a cuddly confidant.

Scrappy is ready to start his new life…might he start it with you?

About Paws Illinois NFP

About Our Rescue Group...

Thank you for your interest in PAWS Illinois NFP. We are a 501(C) (3) organization with many initiatives including rescue and adoption, food pantries and service dogs for veterans.

Our mission at PAWS Illinois NFP is to build our hands-on rescue…to nurture adoption efforts to save the lives of as many companion animals as possible — one at a time — and promote education to increase shelter adoptions, reduce animal cruelty, and advance the highest standards in animal welfare.

Paws Illinois is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, no-kill dog rescue group, led by animal advocates with years of rescue experience. We are a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to restoring the animals in our care to physical and emotional health as they await placement in loving, responsible homes. We are dedicated to rescuing animals left homeless for any reason – animals in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, including all age appropriate immunizations along with spaying and neutering. We take considerable care in finding lifetime matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing animals into their homes and lives.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
