Facts about Pecan

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Tortoiseshell
  • Age: Kitten
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Pecan is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH), Tortie (orange and black), female kitten, 16-weeks of age.

Pecan is a calm and quiet, extremely sweet-natured kitten. More easily pleased and undemanding, than independent, she is content to be hanging-out and observing activities most of the time rather than being right-up in the action or the center of attention. Put her in the mix with other kittens though, and she’ll be happily participating in their lively games of hide-and-seek and chase, or follow-the-leader exploration to conquer any moving shadows or hidden dust bunnies. Interactive play with a feathered toy causes her to lose any inhibitions she has, and it’s one of her favorite activities. Make no mistake about it though, Pecan is definitely an affectionate cat who loves being held and cuddling during down-time – she’s just not demanding about it, preferring instead to be plied and encouraged with soft-spoken words of invitation to which she’ll readily respond.

We rescued Pecan (along with her brother Cola) from Monroe County Animal Control where she was treated on intake to Monroe SPCA for URI, Coccidia, ear mites, roundworm, tapeworm, and flea infestation. She is now a healthy and happy young kitten, free of parasites and disease, and looking for her forever home.

Pecan is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a low-active lifestyle. Friendly and happy-to-be-around, but somewhat shy with unfamiliar people and situations, she gets along well with other compatible cats, and she’s comfortable in the presence of well-mannered dogs. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable cats, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Pecan currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Resale Store/The Fur Factory. Come meet him during adoption hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 12:00 pm -2:00 pm; closed Sunday, Monday, and National Holidays. All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $75.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, dewormed, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.

About Monroe SPCA

About Our Rescue Group...

Monroe SPCA (Monroe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a 501c.3 tax-exempt, non-profit animal welfare and rescue organization incorporated in the State of Michigan in 2010. Monroe SPCA is governed by all-volunteer Board of Directors.

Monroe SPCA’s mission is to save, protect, and improve the lives of animals. One of the ways we accomplish our mission is by being the leading non-profit organization facilitating adoptions and providing medical care and treatment to homeless animals at Monroe County Animal Control. We are also the leading rescuer and rehabilitator of animals at this shelter, finding and securing placement for some of the neediest and most vulnerable animals with partner rescue organizations (all of them no-kill) as well as through our own network of foster homes.

Additionally, Monroe SPCA, now, also provides every dog at Monroe County Animal Control with basic preventative health care which includes flea preventative, deworming(s), DHPP vaccine and booster, and Heartworm Testing. If a dog tests positive for Heartworm, Monroe SPCA also provides that dog with Heartworm Treatment.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process starts with filling out an Adoption Application on the animal you're interested in adopting. Once we've received and reviewed your completed application we’ll contact you, usually within 2-3 days (remember, we're all volunteers). Our adoptions are best-fit placements, meaning we strive to ensure a good match for both, the animal being adopted and the adopter.

Our adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $120.00 to $200.00.
Our adoption fee for cats and kittens is $75.00.

Adoption fee includes the animal being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption as well as all dogs being Heartworm negative or receiving treatment for Heartworm.
