Facts about Kia

  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
UPDATED BIO 3/22/2017

Kia has a very special story, and she is a very, very special gal.

At the end of January, the foster home Kia resided in caught fire. She was the only pet to survive the fire. She was successfully resuscitated on scene by the local fire department with no adverse effects. She has no long term problems and is as healthy as the day she was born.

If only cats could speak, I am sure she would tell quite the story. She had literally, maybe 30 seconds before she too would have perished as the fire had begun to spread to the room where she was living. The door was shut and that door saved her life.

Although it has been discussed amongst our rescue to keep Kia after everything she has been through, it is best for us to try and continue to look for a home for her.

See, Kia enjoys her alone time. She likes to be the only cat and she wants all the attention to herself. She tolerates some dogs, but only the laid back ones that leave her be. She just is picky, and wants all the loving for herself.

She is a lap cat, she will snuggle in the bed and on the couch. But she cannot be with small children as her attention span is very short. She only likes to be pet when she asks for it and nothing more. She wants to sit in your lap, and she wants to sleep with you, but she does not necessarily want to be pet. She likes to play and she likes to follow you around. There is a fine line between her love and hate relationship and it takes time for her to love you, and it takes your patience to learn how to love her back without giving her, well, too much love.

She is not the kind of cat where you can demand her attention, you have to allow her to come to you, which she will once she likes you. She is not typically shy around strangers once she is acclimated to her surroundings, but kind of like that dog where someone tells you, you can look, but don't touch, Kia is similar.

She will undoubtedly be your best friend once you develop that bond, but you just have to learn to read her body language and resist the urge to push her past her limitations.

Kia is still young at about 3 years of age, she is front declawed, fully vetted and ready for that special someone that is as special as she is.

About Mutts & Mayhem

About Our Rescue Group...

Our mission is to provide for the rescue and relief of suffering or homeless animals and perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals.

MMAR's mission is accomplished by providing appropriate shelter and humane care, providing medical, emotional and social rehabilitation, by providing a nurturing foster home environment, by seeking permanent, loving, responsible homes through adoption, reducing pet overpopulation through strict spay/neuter measures, and providing a diversity of humane education programs to the community. Our ultimate goal is to end the suffering and provide these animals with a second chance at life through love, compassion & adoption!

Through our research, we have discovered that many animals could have remained in their current homes instead of being surrendered to animal shelters or to the lonely, dangerous streets if only their owners had access to proper resources. Most often these are simple resources that could provide some friendly advice, temporary assistance or education. We hope to become a valuable resource for these owners who feel they have nowhere else to turn.

Not only do we specialize in rescuing the sick and injured, but we also assist in humanely reducing the number of feral cats in the community by gently trapping them, then providing shelter, sustenance, veterinary examination, inoculation, spaying/neutering and whenever possible, provide them with a forever home through adoption.

By working with our local shelters, committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue and save the lives of these precious animals that would otherwise be forgotten.

None of this would be possible without the love, support and monetary contributions & donations from people like you! No amount is too small...every single dollar makes a huge difference. Please help us!! Together, we can save them all! One dollar at a time...one animal at a time!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our Animal Rescue is a Foster based organizations as we do not yet have a brick and mortar shelter location. We are happy to schedule a "Meet & Greet" and/or an Adoption for one or more of our animals by appointment. We hold public adoption events periodically where you may meet our animals on the spot. These event dates and times are posted on the home page of our website. www.muttsandmayhem.org

Our Adoption Process...

UPDATED March 2015

Feline Adoption Fees
$100 <1 year
$80 <5 years
$50 >5 years

Canine Adoption Fees
$300 <1 year
$250 <3 years
$200 <5 years
$100 >5 years

Prior to an adoption, all of our animals will have received a thorough Veterinary exam, received treatment needed for any illnesses or injuries they may have incurred prior to their Rescue, they have been spayed or neutered, and they have been vaccinated and have been given Microchip IDs!

Our Adoption Fees range depending on the animal. Careful consideration is taken when determining this fee. We consider the animals’ previous medical expenses, length of time in our care, adopt-ability factors, future needs, etc. Each animals adoption’ fee will be listed within his/her profile information.

We wish that we could simply give our animals to their new adoptive family at zero cost. However, Mutts & Mayhem is a non profit organization who relies solely on individual donations and adoption fees to care for all of our animals on a day to day basis. The cost associated with treating and caring for each animal far outweighs the adoption fee that you pay for that animal through your adoption. Please keep all of this in mind if it seems to you that the adoption fee listed may be too high for that animal.

To be considered for adoption you need to:

•Be at least 18 years old.
•Have knowledge and consent of all adults living in your household
•Have a valid government-issued photo ID
•Have landlords consent to bring an animal onto the property (if applicable)
•Possess zero criminal convictions for Animal Cruelty, Animal Abuse, Family/Domestic Violence or Felony Violent Crimes.
•Understand that Mutts & Mayhem reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any animal to any person.

Through the adoption process, we will ask you to complete an adoption application and we will process it as promptly as possible. For dog adoptions, we do require a home visit prior to the final approval of an adoption application. After your adoption application has been approved, we will complete an adoption agreement with you that is signed by all parties.

After your adoption, if "anything" happens where you can no longer keep or care for the pet that you adopted from us, we will happily accept that animal back into our Rescue, no questions asked.
